LANDFORMS
It is a natural physical feature of the
earths surface largely defined by its
form and location in the landscape.
Land forms do not include
manufactured features because
land forms are only created by
natural forces such as wind, water
erosion and tectonic plate
movement.
Landforms originate from geological
processes:

1. INTERNAL PROCESS
2. EXTERNAL PROCESS
GEOMORPHOLOGY is the
study of landforms: their
processes, forms and sediments
at the surface of the earth.
Alfred Wegener and Continental Drift
Theory
TYPES OF
LANDFORMS
1. MOUNTAINS
A large natural elevation of the earth's
surface rising abruptly from the
surrounding level.
MT. EVEREST, MT. TRUIMPH, USA
CHINA/NEPAL
2. HILLS
It is a piece of land that rises higher
than everything surrounding it. It
looks like a little bump in the Earth
BA NA HILL CHOCOLATE HILLS,
PHILIPPINES
3. PLATEAU
An extensive area of flat upland
usually bounded by an escarpment on
all sides but sometimes enclosed
by mountains
TEBIT PLATEAU, CHINA COYOTE BUTTES
PLATEAU, USA
4. PLAINS
A plain is a broad area of relatively flat
land. It occur as lowlands along valleys
or on the doorsteps of mountains, as
coastal plains, and as plateaus or
uplands.
1. Wallachian Plain in in the southern Cumberland Plain bushland in Western
part of Argeș County. Sydney, Australia.

Taieri Plain, Otago, New Zealand.

5. VALLEY
Valleys are depressed areas of land–scoured
and washed out by the conspiring forces of
gravity, water, and ice. Some hang; others
are hollow. They all take the form of a "U"
or "V.“
Valley of the Ten Peaks – Canada Kalalau Valley – USA

Kaghan Valley – Pakistan

6. VOLCANO
A volcano is an opening in the earth’s
crust through which lava, volcanic
ash, and gases escape.
3 types of Volcanoes
1. ACTIVE VOLCANO - have a recent history of
eruptions; they are likely to erupt again
2. DORMANT VOLCANO - have not erupted for a very
long time but may erupt at a future time.
3. EXTINCT VOLCANO - are not expected to erupt in
the future.
Mayon Volcano in Philippines
1. Mt. Fuji in Japan

1. Mount Hood in Oregon

7. DESERT
is an area of land that receives no more
than 25 centimeters (10 inches) of
precipitation a year. In all deserts, there is
little water available for plants and other
organisms
Atacama Desert – South America Sahara Desert – Africa

Gobi Desert – China/Mongolia

8. ISLANDS
A piece of land which is
surrounded by water
from all sides.
Hundred Islands, Philippines
9. PENINSULA
A large land area that extend into
water bodies. They remain
surrounded by water on three
sides.
KOREAN PENINSULA
10. GLACIERS
Slow moving huge bodies of ice
formed due to compression of the
snow layers.
Tidewater Margerie Glacier, Alaska
WATERFORMS
A natural body of water that is any significant
accumulation of water, generally on a planet's
surface.
HYDRAULIC SCIENCES is
concerned with the study of the waters
of the earth.
