Job?
Horseplay at the on the job (workplace) encompasses a
range of unprofessional behaviors, including pranks and
playful, disruptive activities that can create an unsafe or
uncomfortable environment for employees. These
behaviors, often stemming from a lack of professionalism
or disregard for workplace norms, can include actions like
mock fighting, running or chasing within office premises,
and setting up pranks intended to embarrass or
inconvenience colleagues. Such activities not only disrupt
the workflow but can also lead to potential accidents,
causing harm to individuals and possibly damaging
property or equipment within the workplace.
Horseplay leads to many injuries and property loss
damage incidents in the workplace every year. A quick
search on YouTube or Google will show you hundreds
of these types of incidents. While you should enjoy
the work that you do, your work should always be
completed safely and responsibly.

Some companies actually condone and provide


resources to employees to horseplay and have fun, but
many companies have a zero-tolerance for it in their
workplace. While horseplay may seem innocent and
fun, it can lead to devastating consequences.
Examples Of Horseplay At The Workplace
 Pranks: Pranks like placing a whoopee cushion on a colleague’s chair can be disruptive and
potentially embarrassing for the victim. It can create an uncomfortable atmosphere and lead to
resentment among colleagues.

 Running or Chasing: Running, chasing, or playing tag within the workplace can be dangerous as it
increases the risk of accidents and injuries. It can also disrupt the work environment and disturb other
employees.

 Throwing Objects: Tossing items like paper balls or other objects at colleagues can be distracting
and potentially harmful. It can lead to accidents, especially if the objects are hard or sharp, and can
create a chaotic environment.

 Mock Fighting: Engaging in playful wrestling or mock fighting can lead to actual physical harm,
even if unintended. It can escalate into real conflict and create tension among employees.

 Jumping or Climbing: Jumping off or climbing on furniture or equipment can result in injuries and
damage to property. It is unprofessional and can be dangerous, especially in an environment with
