SCOPE OF SPORTS POLICY FOR EMPOWERMENT OF

YOUTH IN J&K

WASEEM RAJA,JKAS
Objectives:

To create a culture of sports by imbibing higher moral and ethical values, spirit of
comradeship and the desire to excel.
b) To provide opportunities to all its citizens to participate in sports.
c) To encourage mass participation in sports.
d) To promote excellence in sports.
e) To develop, maintain and optimally utilize high quality sports infrastructure.
f) To encourage, train and support sportspersons to participate in national and international
championships.
g) To lay special emphasis on strengthening of infrastructure and facilities in the State.
h) To channelize talent in sports and reward to sportspersons, who achieve excellence in
sports.
i)To recognize special needs of disabled and facilitate their participation in sports.
j) To make efforts to encourage adventure & water sports in the state of J&K.
k) To develop synthetic surfaces for competitive & popular games in the State.

l) To organize seminars/clinics for coaches/players to update their knowledge


by inviting coaches of International level.

m) To provide cash incentives, awards, job opportunities & Reservations in


Professional courses to outstanding sportspersons.

n) To provide sports equipments to all coaching centres, sports Associations &


coaching camps for selected competitions.

o) To organize sports competitions at District, State, National & International


levels.

p) Provide Insurance security to the sportspersons who shall participate in


various recognized sports activities.

q) To create counseling centres at provincial level who shall advise


sportspersons for their future programme.

AWARDS & INCENTIVES TO SPORTSPERSONS
Sher-i-Kashmir Award for Excellence in Sports
This award shall be presented to 10 sportsmen from the UT in a financial year who have participated in the International
Competitions in games & Sports recognized by International/Asian Federations/GOI/Boards. It shall comprise a cash prize
ranging from INR 50,000 to INR 1.00 lacs per head.

J&K Khel Protsahana Award


This Award shall be presented to the best UT Sports Associations and two veterans/experienced sportspersons/organizers or
referees carrying cash prize of INR 50,000 per head..

Parshuram Award
This award shall be conferred to 5 best Coaches in different disciplines in a financial year and shall carry cash prize of INR
50,000 to INR 1.00 lacs per head. The UT Coaches who have trained medal winners for at least 180 days in the preceding
two-year period before the event will be eligible for cash award under the scheme.

LG / Chief Minister’s Gold Rolling Trophy for Sports Association s :

This trophy (Replica) shall be presented to one best recognized UT Sports Associations of the J&K UT for having organized its
activities at different District of the UT & participated in large number of recognized competitions outside the UT with medals.
