AND MACAU

INTRODUCTION

 Hounded by powerful enemies, Rizal was forced to leave


his country for the second time. he was then a full-grown
man of 27 years of age, a practicing physician, and
recognized man of letter.
TRIP TO HONGKONG

 On February 3, 1888, after a short stay of six


months in his beloved Calamba. Rizal left
Manila for Hongkong on board the Zafiro.
 He was sick and sad during the crossing of
the choppy China Sea. He did not off ship
when it made brief stopover at Amoy.
THREE REASONS:

 He was not feeling well


 It was raining and
 He heard that the City was dirty
TRIP TO HONGKONG
 February 8, Rizal was arrived in Hongkong, during
his stay in Hongkong, a British Colony, Rizal wrote a
letter to Blumentritt.
 Rizal was stayed at Victoria Hotel. He was welcomed
by Filipino residents, including Jose Maria Basa,
Balbino Mauricio and Manuel Yriarte son of
Francisco Yriarte.
 A spaniard, Jose Sainz de Varanda, shadowed Rizals
movement in Hongkong.
VISIT TO MACAU

 February 18, 1888, Rizal accompanied by


Basa, boarded the ferry steamer kiu-kiang for
Macau, he was surprised to see among the
passengers a familiar figure Sains de
Varanda.
VISIT TO MACAU
 Rizal and Basa stayed at the home of Don Juan
Francisco Lecaros. He was rich and spent his day
cultivating plants and flowers, many of which came from
the Philippines.
 On his second day in Macau. February 19 in the evening
he witnessed a Catholic procession in which the devotees
were dressed in blue and purple dresses and were
carrying unlighted candle.
 OnFebruary 20, Rizal and Basa returned to
Hongkong
When Rizal returned to Hongkong he was
able to experience:
Chinese new Year
Boiterous Chinese Theatre

Marathon Lauriat Party

Dominican order

And went to Hongkong cemeteries

Peotestant

Catholic

Muslim
 February 22, Rizal left the Hongkong on
board the Oceanic, an American streamer. His
destination was Japan. He did not like the
meals on board, but he like the ship because
it was clean and efficiently managed.
