Background of the Study

A good spending behavior is a challenge to every students hence, this research is important and
necessary as:

✔ It wants to help students to be wise in their spending and also to help them realize and see
what are their way of spending.
✔ It also look for a futuristic view wherein through a good spending behavior they will be able
to achieve financial success instead of falling into greater money problems.
Background of the Study

● Chang et al.,(2019) as cited in Othman et al.,(2022)in the University of Malaysia had given two
factors influencing students spending behavior. First, FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE where students
from Business Administration and Accountancy are knowledgeable as one of their subjects
include financial management. Another, FAMILY BACKGROUND as family has a greater
influence to the students as they are the one who teaches and shape the students about
spending behavior.

● Nakimbugwe(2019) at Makerere University, University in Kampala, Uganda shows the third


factor influencing the students spending behavior is attitude,where in the attitude it described
that attitudes are different and your spending behavior is base on your beliefs and behavior
toward certain products and services availed.
Background of the Study

● Tuliao (2019) at the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, reveals that the
respondents weighted mean of 4.02 stating that they limit and have limit on spending their
allowances. A weighted mean 3.56 agreeing that they keep track of their expenses indicating
positive outcome.

● Abawag et al.(2019)at Holy Trinity College of General Santos City that of respondents,5-21% of
their monthly allowances were spent on personal needs as well as spending on accessories
and clothing to a lesser extent. Thus, the majority of the respondents spend 39-55 % of their
monthly allowance to finance their food.
Background of the Study

● Fianza's study,2019 in the University of Baguio where is focuses on three things including their
financial behavior, attitude, knowledge. Where it had concluded that as early as now students
must learn about their spending behavior because it can improve one’s financial decision in
the future.

● Agyapas et al.2022 at the University of Baguio stating tha spending behavior has a great
importance to one’s lives where it shows that there is an increasing desire to understand
factors that affect individuals spending their money.
Background of the Study

● This study is significant as it adds to the current pool of knowledge and also to help
beneficiaries

● Educators in the department and financial institutions as a source of information and a tool.

● Students

The purpose of the study is to find out the factor mostly influence students use in their
allowances and also to help them to make better educated and responsible financial decisions.
Theoretical Framework
In our theoretical framework focuses on 4 factors that influence students spending behavior towards their
allowances.

• Attitude influence student on how they spend their money on some products or services they try to get. Every
student have a different perspective on some things but attitudes changes also depends on what we see or what
we feel.

• Family background, different family social status of students depends or influences on how they spend their
money they tend to follow their budget and they should not exceed on that. It also uses as their basis on their
daily spending.

• Lifestyle, its one's way of persons live there life on the way they want it. It also affects on students how they
purchase something or try to consumes.

• Financial knowledge, being financial literate/illiterate influence students how they save or spend their allowance
on their daily wants and needs in their life. These 4 factors all influence how the business student in university
their spending behavior. Their are different sources and ranges of allowance of students and that sources and
ranges is their basis also in spending and saving and to accommodate all their needs.
Statement of the Problem

1. To what extent do the following factors influence the spending behavior of Business
Administration and Accountancy students’ toward their allowances?

a) Attitude
b) Family Background
c) Lifestyle
d) Financial Knowledge

1.1 Is there a significant difference in the level of the identified factors that influence the
spending behavior of the students towards their allowances?
Research Design

This study considered Quantitative-descriptive research design. The quantitative research approach analyzes the
data through statistical analysis, which help examine and understand the factors influencing the spending behavior
of Business Administration and Accountancy Students, aiming to aid in responsible financial decisions, benefit
educators and researchers, and improve their financial education.

• Descriptive-survey method
Population and Locale of the Study

• The study will take place in University of Baguio.


• The Respondents will be Business Administration and Accountancy students enrolled in second
semester of academic year 2023-2024
• Reliability and Validity Testing will be students from the School of International Hospitality and
Tourism Management.

• Pure Random Sampling

Treatment of Data

• Once the questionnaires have been collected, the responses will be carefully reviewed, tallied,
tabulated, discussed, and subjected to statistical analysis.

Ethical Considerations

• The data collection procedures that the researchers will execute will guarantee the anonymity
of the participants, protect their privacy, and assure the confidentiality of information.
• The researcher will establish trust where in the researcher will make clear that participants
may withdraw from the study any time and may decline from answering any question when
they are not confident, they feel threatened or uncomfortable to continue with the study.
• The researcher will be responsible for disposing of the data by deleting everything in the
databases and disposing properly the papers that will be used in the questionnaire The
researchers will use non-discriminatory procedures
• The questionnaire will be validated by the ethical checker that will comply with the set of
principles.
• The research proposal ethics review form for research involving human participants was
utilized and provided by the Research Development Center (RDC) of the University.
• Researchers ensures to communicate the results of the research to the beneficiaries with the
help of the institution, the results of the study will be available at the library.
• The results will be published to the school’s journal as well.
