Enhancing Security Measures in UPI Transactions: A Comprehensive Examination of Threats and Solutions
Transactions: A Comprehensive
Examination of Threats and Solutions
INTRODUCTION
• Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a real-time payment system developed by
the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
• It allows users to transfer funds between bank accounts instantly using their
smartphones.
• UPI has revolutionized the landscape of digital transactions in India, offering
unparalleled convenience and efficiency.
• However, its widespread adoption has attracted various threats, ranging from
phishing attacks to malware infiltration.
• Some of the threats include - Phishing attacks, Malware, Identity Thefts,
Account takeovers etc.
OBJECTIVE
• Identify and analyze the various types of threats and vulnerabilities affecting UPI transactions, including
but not limited to phishing attacks, malware, social engineering, and technical exploits.
• Examine the effectiveness of existing initiatives aimed at educating and raising awareness
• Identify gaps and opportunities for enhancing user education and awareness campaigns
• Acknowledge the limitations of the study, such as sample bias, data collection constraints, and evolving
threats.
• Suggest areas for future research and exploration to address emerging challenges and advance the field of
UPI security.
METHODOLOGY
• Designed a comprehensive Google Form questionnaire by survey method covering
various aspects of UPI security, including perceived threats, existing security
measures, user experiences, and suggestions for improvement.
• Including multiple-choice questions, rating scales, and open-ended questions to gather
both quantitative and qualitative data.
• To ensure clarity and simplicity in language and to facilitate easy understanding and
completion by respondents.
LIMITATION
• Dependence on Participant Understanding:
Misinterpretation of survey questions or response options could lead to inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Sampling Bias:
The sample population may not be representative of the entire UPI user base, leading to potential biases in the
findings.
Users who are more security-conscious or technologically savvy may be overrepresented, while those with limited
digital literacy or access to technology may be underrepresented.
Complex issues related to UPI security may not be adequately explored or understood through the survey format
alone.
