their responses based on the format of the question. The suggestion of a strategy, measure
or action, must be well-developed and clearly explained to achieve full marks allocated .this
power[point was prepared to guide students and teachers to formulate strategies and justify
why these suggestions will be successful.

USING THE CATEGORIES TO FORMULATE STRATEGIES

• SEEKING ASSISTANCE BY
SUBSIDIZING COST
FORMING PARTNERSHIP
ENCOURAGING INVESTORS
EXAMPLES
STRATEGY

SET UP A GOVERNMENT AGENCY/PARTNER WITH NGOS AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS TO PRODUCE MATERIALS/PROVIDE
FUNDING FOR THE ORIGINAL WORK OF ARTISTES RELEVANT TO THE CARIBBEAN CULTURE FOR DISTRIBUTION TO THE
MEDIA.

SUGGESTION /JUSTIFICATION
THE PRODUCTION OF LOCAL MATERIAL CAN BE EXPENSIVE FOR MEDIA HOUSES SO IF THE GOVERNMENT, WITH THE
ASSISTANCE OF OTHER ORGANIZATIONS UNDERTAKES THE PRODUCTION, THEN THE COST TO THE MEDIA MAY BE REDUCED
AND THEY WILL BE MORE LIKELY TO USE THE MATERIAL ACROSS THE REGION.
DEVELOPING AN AWARENESS

Mass education is very important

Creating brochures , posters etc.
Utilizing mass media as a platform to inform , educate and entertain .
Role play and encouraging promotion of cultural activities , tips, etc.
Create social media pages and hotline for immediate assistance
EXAMPLES
STRATEGY

ONE STRATEGY CARICOM LEADERS COULD BUILD INTEGRATION AMONG MEMBER STATES IS BY HOLDING CARIBBEAN TRADE EXPO FESTIVAL EVERY THREE YEARS WITHIN DIFFERENT

MEMBER STATES FOR PUBLIC VIEWING.

SUGGESTION /JUSTIFICATION

THIS WOULD BE SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE MANY CITIZENS WOULD SUPPORT THE REGIONAL PRODUCTS MORE OFTEN AS OPPOSE TO THE FOREIGN PRODUCTS.

STRATEGY

ATTENDING EDUCATION/ AWARENESS WORKSHOPS OR SEMINARS. SOME OF THESE PROGRAMMES ARE OFTEN PUT ON BY CREDIT UNIONS AND BANKS FOR JUNIOR SAVERS. SUCH

TRAINING CAN TEACH/ PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH GREATER KNOWLEDGE ABOUT BUDGETING, ETC AS WELL AS HOW TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF THE POSSESSIONS THEY ALREADY HAVE

SUGGESTION /JUSTIFICATION

THESE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES AND/OR SEMINARS CAN PROVIDE TIPS FOR EXERCISING THRIFT. THESE TIPS WHEN IMPLEMENTED BY STUDENTS CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE

DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE HABITS/LIFE SKILLS.

PREVENTITIVE AND REMEDIAL MEASURES

• FORMULATE NEW LAWS OR REGULATIONS AND REINFORCE OLD ONES

• EDUCATE AND INFORM TO DETER
• CONDUCTING RESEARCH AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS TO ARRIVE AT NEEDS
• SEEK COUNSELLING OR ASSISTANCE FROM RELEVANT AND RESOURCE PERSONS
• MODEL APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR
• REPORT TO RELEVANT AUTHORITIES
EXAMPLE
STRATEGY

LOBBY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF POLICIES TO PROTECT THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT FROM CRUISE SHIPS AND OTHER
RECREATIONAL VESSELS, ETC, THAT MAY ENDANGER CORAL REEFS AND OTHER MARINE LIFE. IMPLEMENT ADEQUATE PENALTIES FOR BREAKING
THESE RULES.

SUGGESTION /JUSTIFICATION

CAPTAINS AND OWNERS/OPERATORS OF SHIPS AND OTHER MARINE VESSELS ARE MORE LIKELY TO ACT RESPONSIBLY IF THEY HAVE
GUIDELINES/POLICIES/LAWS TO OBEY AND IF THEY KNOW THAT THEY WILL BE APPROPRIATELY PUNISHED FOR BREAKING THEM.

STRATEGY

REDUCE THE USE OF HARSH/TOXIC CHEMICALS FOR CLEANING. USE MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CLEANERS

SUGGESTION /JUSTIFICATION

TOXIC CHEMICALS USED IN THE INDUSTRY MAY FIND THEIR WAY INTO THE SEA WHERE THEY CAN HARM THE ENVIRONMENT. REDUCING THEIR
USE WOULD HELP THE INDUSTRY TO BECOME MORE SUSTAINABLE.
PROMOTING IDEAS AND EVENTS

• CREATING COMPETITIONS
• ADVERTISING
• REWARDS AND INCENTIVES TO ENCOURAGE POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL CHANGES
EXAMPLE
STRATEGY

PROVIDE AVENUES FOR FESTIVALS OR OTHER CULTURAL ACTIVITIES TO SHOWCASE LOCAL/REGIONAL ARTISTES WHICH CAN BE RECORDED
AND BROADCASTED AT A LATER DATE.

JUSTIFICATION

MORE CULTURALLY RELEVANT MATERIAL WOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE BY HOLDING FESTIVALS, ETC. THIS LOCAL/REGIONAL MATERIAL
COULD THEN BE AIRED IN PLACE OF FOREIGN MATERIAL.
