Ruimveldt Secondary School.

Introduction

3
The topic of investigating the daily spending habits of grade 10 students at East Ruimveldt
Secondary School was chosen due to its significance in understanding the financial behaviors
of young individuals. As adolescents transition to higher grades, they are often granted
increased autonomy in handling money. It is vital to assess how these students manage their
daily expenses and the potential impact on their academic performance and overall well-
being. By delving into this area, we can identify ideas of improvement. This project aims to
contribute valuable insights towards fostering responsible financial habits and financial
independence for young learners.

Analysis of Data

6
Based on the data collected through a survey of 4 grade 10 students at East Ruimveldt
Secondary School, we aimed to examine their average daily spending habits. The responses
revealed a diverse range of spending amounts, with values varying from $500 to $780.
Calculating the average spending per day, we found it to be approximately $615. Notably, all
4 students reported bringing money to school every day, indicating a consistent demand for
daily funds. Interestingly, 2 students admitted to occasionally borrowing money to cover
school-related expense, suggesting some financial challenges. The payment method primarily
used was cash. Fortunately, none of the surveyed students felt the cost of daily expenses was
financially burdensome. This limited dataset provides initial insights into students’ spending
patterns, highlighting the potential for financial management education to foster responsible
financial habits.

Discussion of Findings

7
The findings from the survey of 4 grade 10 students at East Ruimveldt Secondary School she
insights on their daily spending habits. The calculated average spending of approximately
$615 indicates a moderate range of expenses. It is encouraging to see that all 4 students bring
money to school regularly, reflecting financial responsibility. However, the fact that 2
students resort to borrowing money at times suggests potential financial challenges. The
prevalent use of cash for transactions emphasizes the need for financial literacy and digital
payment awareness. Notably, none of the surveyed students perceive the cost of daily
expenses as a burden on their families. Despite the limited sample size, these findings provide
valuable insights for promoting financial education and instilling prudent financial practices
among grade 10 students.

Conclusion

8
In conclusion, the survey of 4 grade 10 students at East Ruimveldt Secondary School offers
valuable insights into their daily spending patterns. The calculated average spending of
approximately $615 reflects the moderate range of expenses. While all students bring money
to school regularly, the presence of occasional borrowing hints at potential financial
challenges. Encouragingly, none of the surveyed students perceived the cost of daily expenses
as a burden on their families. The data highlights the importance of financial literacy and
responsible money management education to empower students with essential life skills for a
secure financial future.
