DUAL AXIS VEHICLE

STEERING MECHANISM
PRESENTED BY : Siddhay, Harshal, Dishant, Tejas
INTRODUCTION
Dual axis vehicle steering mechanism is a type of steering system used in
automobiles that allows for independent control of the steering angle of the front
wheels around two different axes. Unlike the traditional steering systems that control
the wheels around a single axis, the dual axis steering system enables the wheels to
rotate around a vertical and a horizontal axis, giving greater flexibility and precision
in handling. This type of steering mechanism is commonly used in high-performance
vehicles and racing cars, as it provides better stability, cornering, and overall
handling at high speeds.

WORKING:-
● The dual-axis vehicle steering mechanism allows the vehicle to
turn in two planes simultaneously. It consists of two separate
steering axes that are perpendicular to each other.
● When the driver turns the steering wheel, the first axis moves,
which causes the wheels on that axis to turn left or right. At the
same time, the second axis also moves, which causes the wheels
on that axis to turn at an angle that is perpendicular to the first
axis.
● This mechanism enables the vehicle to make sharper turns, as
the wheels on both axes work together to change the direction
of the vehicle. It also improves stability and reduces the
likelihood of oversteering or understeering
● FUNCTIONS
A dual-axis vehicle steering mechanism is a system that allows a vehicle to be steered using two axes or pivot
points instead of the traditional single axis steering system. In this system, the front wheels are attached to two
separate control arms or spindles, each of which is mounted to a separate pivot point.
The main function of a dual-axis steering mechanism is to improve vehicle stability and handling. By allowing the
front wheels to move independently of each other, the system can better respond to different road conditions and
driving situations. For example, when driving on a straight road, the wheels can be kept parallel to each other,
which reduces the vehicle's tendency to drift or pull to one side.
However, when the vehicle needs to turn, the two wheels can pivot independently of each other, allowing the
vehicle to make tighter turns and improving its overall maneuverability. This can be particularly useful in off-road
vehicles, where tight turns and uneven terrain require a greater degree of flexibility and control.
Overall, the dual-axis steering mechanism provides improved stability, control, and maneuverability, making it a
valuable addition to many types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and off-road vehicles.
● ADVANTAGES
1. Improved Maneuverability: The dual-axis steering mechanism enables the vehicle to make
sharper turns with greater precision and control, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces
and navigate through narrow roads.
2. Better Stability: The dual-axis steering mechanism improves the stability of the vehicle
during turns, as the wheels on both axes work together to provide a smoother, more controlled
turn.
3. Reduced Oversteering and Understeering: The dual-axis steering mechanism reduces the
likelihood of oversteering or understeering, which can lead to loss of control and accidents.
4. Enhanced Safety: The dual-axis steering mechanism can improve the safety of the vehicle
by providing more precise and responsive steering, making it easier for the driver to avoid
obstacles and hazards on the road.
● DISADVANTAGES

1. Cost: Dual-axis steering mechanisms are more complex than traditional steering systems,
which can make them more expensive to manufacture, maintain, and repair.
2. Increased Weight: Dual-axis steering mechanisms can add weight to the vehicle, which
can affect its fuel efficiency and performance.
3. More Complex to Maintain : Dual-axis steering mechanisms require more maintenance
and specialized tools and expertise to repair, which can make them more difficult and costly
to maintain.
4. Limited Application : Dual-axis steering mechanisms are not suitable for all types of
vehicles and may not be necessary or beneficial for vehicles that do not require high levels
● APPLICATION
Some applications of dual axis vehicle steering mechanisms include:
1. High-performance sports cars: Four-wheel steering can improve the handling and performance of high-
performance sports cars, allowing them to corner more quickly and smoothly.
2. Off-road vehicles: Four-wheel steering can increase the maneuverability of off-road vehicles, allowing them
to navigate tight turns and obstacles more easily.
3. Agricultural machinery: Dual axis steering systems can be used in agricultural machinery such as tractors
and combine harvesters, improving their maneuverability in tight spaces.
4. Emergency vehicles: Four-wheel steering can be beneficial for emergency vehicles such as fire trucks and
ambulances, allowing them to navigate tight city streets more easily.
5. Military vehicles: Military vehicles such as tanks and armored vehicles can benefit from dual axis steering
systems, which improve their maneuverability and stability on rough terrain.
6. Construction equipment: Four-wheel steering can be used in construction equipment such as cranes and
excavators, allowing them to navigate tight construction sites more easily.
● CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the dual-axis vehicle steering mechanism is an innovative approach to steering
that allows for greater control and stability in a vehicle. This system utilizes two separate axes to
control the direction and tilt of the wheels, providing greater maneuverability and improved
handling in challenging driving conditions. The use of a dual-axis steering system can also
improve the safety and comfort of drivers and passengers, reducing the risk of accidents and
minimizing the impact of bumps and other obstacles on the road. Overall, the dual-axis steering
mechanism is a promising technology that has the potential to revolutionize the way we steer
vehicles in the future.
