S/4 HANA Advance

Planning

Flow Chart
PPDS History

•Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP-DS) was

created as the production planning component of SAP
Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO), a supply
chain planning tool in SAP Business Suite.
•Customers use PP-DS for advanced supply chain
management (SCM) processes, which essentially provides a
unification of two operations: production planning and
detailed scheduling. The goal of production planning is to
ensure that the right products and raw materials are
accessible at the right time and place, to be delivered to
customers or made available for production, respectively.
Meanwhile, detailed scheduling supports the sequencing
and scheduling of production operations by taking into
consideration the available resource capacity (both
machines and humans) and the availability of the materials.
In addition, detailed scheduling is used to ensure the
optimal usage of resources.

Master data
PPDS Master Data
Master data: locations
The plants in scope will be integrated as locations to APO PPDS
PPDS Plant codes are configured in the SAP S/4 system, while they are treated as master data in the PPDS system.
Handling Resources: In PPDS, every activity is scheduled – including the
Goods Receipt Processing time. For this we define handling resources locally
in the PPDS system.
Activities – Transfer plant to PPDS using Report
/SAPAPO/CREATE_LOCATION, define handling resources locally in PPDS,
assign handling resources in the APO location master locally.

5
Material master – inhouse production
Advanced planning indicator steers, that
relevant master and transactional data is
exchanged between S4HANA and PPDS

PP planning procedure steers planning logic

for the product: net requirement calcuation
with strategy FIFO

Pegging stregtegy 01 steers that earliest

receipts are used for pegging

MRP type X0 steers, that MRP is not creating / changig

any elements, but only reexploding BoM

Field values will be maintained automatically by daily job selecting materials with
procurement type ‘E‘ and MRP type ‘PD‘
2. Work center  Resource
PPDS is using the master data resource.
This ressource is being generated automatically by activation of advanced planning for a work center.

The resource type generated in PPDS is dependent on the settings in capacity header of work center:
‚can be used by several operations‘ activated  type multi ressource
‚can be used by several operations‘ not activated  type single ressource

Maintenance of intervals and shifts is working as usual: maintained in work center.

!!Important: ressources for which setup optimization is intended need to be single ressources!!
Work center Text must be copied from work center (line above)

Utilization must be between 10 and 400

Flag to activate the work center for advanced

planning: once this flag is set and saved, the
resource in PPDS will be created

Flag is determining the resource type in PPDS: active: multi resource / inactive:
single resource. Setup optimization can only be sued for single resources
3. Production data structure
The source of supply for the inhouse produced materials in PPDS is called
production data structure (PDS).

It contains all relevant basic, material and scheduling infromation defined in

S4 HANA BoMs, routings and production versions.

In case that the PDS is not existing in PPDS for a material, the production
planning run will not generate a planned order but a message in the log the
planning run.

The PDS is being generated automatically by jobs.

Master data: production data structure
Production versions are transferred as PDS master data

Key concepts

• Alternate resources are

mapped within the same
production version using
resource classification
• PPDS can switch to alternate
resource within the same
production version
• PPDS considers priorities of
the resources –example:
planners can define that out of
five validated lines, line 1,2,3
are with priority 1 and line 4,5
are with priority 2
• Whether a product is validated
on a resource or not can be
defined at Rotuing level

Production data structure – general (t-
code /SAPAPO/CURTO_SIMU)
The production data structure (PDS) in based on the production version in S4HANA.
It contains the information the routing and the bill of material maintained in the production version of a
material.
Changes for make-to-stock PDS will be transferred online, the changes for make-to-order PDS will be
transferred by job.

Product number. Location,

planning version and PDS
usage must be entered

For make to order PDS the special

stock indicator ‘E‘ as well as the
Account assignment element (sales
order and sales order item) must be
entered
Production data structure – make to stock

Regular Make-to-stock assembly: Production version with BoM and routing assignment,
and PDS containing components, operations and activities.

Make-to-stock dummy assembly: Production version with out routing assignment and PDS
without operations and activities
