Fire & Gas Detector Selection :

CONTRACTOR has reviewed the FEED Fire and Gas Detector Layouts (Process Area) of Zubair
Mishrif Facility, (Doc No: 00251034BFDD57307 Sheet 1 to10).

Below detectors are selected during FEED design ;

 Linear Temperature Detector

 IR3 Multispectrum Flame Detector
 Open Path Flammable Gas Detector
 IR Flammable Gas Detector
 Manual Call Point
 Flashing Beacons and Sirens

CONTRACTOR’s observations are as below ;

Voting Logic :

 The FEED Fire and Gas Detector Layouts are not in line with FEED "Fire and Gas
Detection Philosophy (Doc No 251034DFRB50765)". As per FEED Philosophy, 200N
voting logic shall be followed for Pre- Alarm, and Alarm. In FEED this logic has not been
followed for any detector.

CONTRACTOR will follow the 200N Voting logic for Flame and Gas Detection in the
Process area.

Flame Detection: Linear Heat Detection Vs IR3 Multispectrum Flame Detector

 2 Nos of Linear Heat Detectors (LHD) are provided for each Vessel in Oil Treatment
Areas for Fire Detection; However Fire & Gas Philosophy recommends the IR3
Multispectrum Flame Detector. IR3 flame detectors will be provided in areas where
extensive pool fires potentially may occur or generally in areas characterized by a
considerable quantity of flammable liquid and/or characteristic process system.

IR3 Multispectrum Flame Detector is the appropriate detector for outdoor fire detection.
The response time of this type of detector will be higher than Linear Heat Detector. Hence
Except for the transformer area, all outdoor LHD will be replaced with IR3 Multispectrum
Flame Detector in EPC with 200N Voting logic.

Please note that IR3 Multispectrum Flame Detector is insensitive to solar, welding,
lightning, X-rays, sparks, arcs etc.
