Nanotechnology is the engineering of functional systems in nano scale.

In other words creation of useful materials, devices and systems through manipulation of matter in nano scale.

Hundred thousand times smaller than human hair Ten thousand smaller than red blood cells Size of a human DNA Ten times larger than a atom

Nano particles

Small object that behaves as a whole unit when transporting or moving. Nanoparticles are sized between 1 and 100 nanometers. Used plenty of potential applications in biomedical, optical and electronic fields.

Carbon Nanotubes

Carbon nanotubes are molecular-scale tubes of graphitic carbon with outstanding properties. They are among the stiffest and strongest fibers known. Used developing body amours, fabrics, Sports equipment, solar cells etc.

Fullerene

Composed entirely by carbon. They are in forms of a hollow sphere, ellipsoid, or tube. Used in many research fields such as electronics, medicine, sports etc. Produce superconductors, antioxidants and membranes for fuel cells

Electronic Energy Medicine & Biomedical Agriculture & Food

Nano wire
A nanowire is a wire of dimensions of the order of a nanometer (109 meters)

Some nanowires are very good conductors or semiconductors and superconductors.

Used to create very large storage devices. Use to make prototype lasers and light-emitting diodes.

Nano RAM (NRAM)

NRAM by Dr. Thomas Rueckes for a company called Nantero. Uses Carbon nanotubes as the basic structure. Large Data storage. Non volatile memory. Unlike DRAM, NRAM does not require power to "refresh" it.

OLED Displays

Carbon nanotubes are used to produce OLEDs(Organic Light Emitting Diodes).

They are cheap and energy saving. OLED displays are very thin, so its easy to handle OLED products.

Fuel Cells

Hydrogen fuel cells have been around for a while. Use nanotechnology to produce more efficient membranes. Increase cell surface using Nano structures. Make fuel cells smaller.

Solar Cells
Nano rods are used in the manufacture of solar cells.

Low installation costs by producing flexible rolls instead of rigid crystalline panels. Harness more power from the sun with the use of Nano particles.

Nano Batteries

Nanoparticles are used for the production. Less flammable electrode material. Separate liquids in the battery from the solid electrodes when there is no draw on the battery. More storage by increasing the surface area.

Drug Delivery

Use Nano valves to deliver drugs. Can use to deliver chemotherapy medicine to cancer cells. Release the drugs from their containers according to the PH level.

Efficient and more accurate.

Diagnostic and Imaging

Iron oxide nanoparticles can used to improve MRI images of cancer tumors.

Detection of cancer cell using Nano sensors. Nanoparticles can attach to proteins or other molecules, allowing detection of disease.

Antimicrobial Coatings

Nano silver particles are used to produce. Reduce the spreading of microbes such as viruses, bacteria and fungi and fight back. Widely used in surgeries for sterilization.

Food Packaging

Has developed a new plastic using silicate nanoparticles.

Packages are more stronger and lighter. Antimicrobial and antifungal surfaces with the use of nanotechnology.

Protect food from moisture and oxygen

Smart storage

Use Biosensors to detect any change in the food.

Decides whether its contaminated or not. Indicate it by a signal to the relevant authorities or people.

Food Processing

Developing functional and interactive foods. Addition of nanoparticles to existing foods to enable increased absorption of nutrients. Doesnt effect the taste or the appearance Deliver various nutrients to body cells when needed.
