Evolution
Communication evolution started with Alexander Graham Bells invention in 1876. He was 29 years. Graham Bells knowledge on music and nature of sound enabled him in his research of transmitting voice over wire. Elisha Gray invented his version of the telephone. But he was late by few hours in filing the patent. His name is not well known as Alexander Graham Bell though he is also an inventor of telephone. Production of radio waves by Hertz in 1887. First wireless Morse code by Marconi in 1894. First use of mobile radio in 1921. First mobile cellular system operational in 1981 in Sweden.

First mobile cellular system in US was in 1984. GSM in Europe was launched around 1992. GPRS started around 2001 for data services over mobile. Now, we are stepping into 4G era. The current buzz words are: IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) for network technology, WiMAX technology for Mobile broadband, IPTV and Convergence. The current estimate is that there are more than 2 Billion mobile subscribers in the world. 80% of the world population enjoy mobile phone coverage.
