    The Gol takes its name from the Portuguese word for "goal."

    History
    The Beetle was falling by the wayside;
    Brasilia was still an attempt at keeping traditional VW qualities alive;

    Gol was released in 1980;

    Brasilia was retired in 1982.

    Generation 2

    Released 1994;

    Was affectionately called as Gol bolinha;

    Had two special editions: The first received the name "Atlanta";

    Second special edition received the name "Rolling Stones".

    Generation 3

    Released in 1999;

    The rounded lines were replaced with more straight lines; 2003 First Brazilian built flex fuel engines in cars.

    2001 Gol became the best-selling car of Brazilian industry;

    Generation 4

    Released in 2006;

    Follow the pattern of esthetic;

    Interior poorer compared to its predecessor.

    New Gol
    Released in 2008; Car was completely new;

    2010, Volkswagen celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Gol.
