Do your kids rush through dinner and bolt from the table? Try these ideas. Keep the conversation light. Some children share their day in great detail, some wait to share it when they are ready. For some, asking them about their day may not produce information. In time they will share. Some minds need free time before sharing school details. Focus on the events of the day or fun weekend plans ahead. Of course, praising your children for a job well done at school or home is always welcome! Take turns. Ask each person to tell one interesting thing he or she learned during the day. That includes you, too. You might mention something you read in the newspaper or learned about at work. If your child forgets, use the newsletter to help you give an introduction. Show me allie alligators action. Tell me about something God made. How did he do it? Play a game. Try the name game. Start with the name of someone famous (George Washington). Go around the table, taking turns calling out another well-known person or character with the same first or last name (Curious George, George Washington, George Washington Carver).

My daughter Amy always seemed to be bouncing off the walls at home, at school, just about everywhere. I didnt know what to do. Since my sisters son is also very active, I asked her for some advice. She suggested that Amy get as much exercise as possible. So, we try to go for a walk or play in the park almost every day. On other days, Amy rides her bike or plays running games with the other kids on our block. Ive noticed that Amy is especially wired when shes overtired, so I make sure she gets plenty of sleep. The difference these changes have made to her behavior is wonderful and Im calmer, too! Be A Helper Helping others can be a real confidence booster for a child. From household chores to spontaneous favors, being helpful can teach your child about living in a community, the family. Teamwork Ask her to stuff pillows into the cases while you put the bed together. Ask him to wipe the windows on the sliding doors after you spray. They will see that working together is a job done! If she makes a mistake, let it go. At her age its good to develop an attitude of helping. Thats more important than being perfect.
