    Youngs Class Shared Reading


    Our focus for Shared Reading this week was Pumpkins. We read the books Perfect Pumpkins, The Pumpkin Book, Pattys Pumpkin Patch, Apples and Pumpkins, The Bumpy Little Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Pumpkin Soup, The Runaway Pumpkin, and A Day at the Pumpkin Patch. We measured our class pumpkin, sequenced the growth of pumpkins, labeled the parts of a pumpkin, and even tasted pumpkin seeds after guessing how many were in our pumpkin. We completed a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting apples and pumpkins.

    October 29: Life South Blood Drive November 2: Tailgate Day November 7: Book Fair Lunch

    We will have Tailgate Day at AEEC on Friday, November 2. The children will be rotating to different stations throughout the day. Children are to wear their favorite team jerseys, hats, cheerleader outfits etc. We will also have a pep rally. We will also be eating a tailgate lunch. Please let me know if you would like to bring a class snack for tailgate day.

    Theme
    This week, we finished constructing our oceanographer and learned about seahorses. We read books to learn about their body parts (eyes, snout, fins, gills, tail, body armor) and the purpose of each one, how they swim, and what they eat. We completed a KWL chart on what we know, want to know, and what we learned about seahorses.

    Our Scholastic Book Fair will start Monday, November 5th and run through Friday, November 9th. It will be held in the Conference Room. On Wednesday, November 7th, our parents are invited to come have lunch with their child and browse the Book Fair afterwards. If you plan on coming and having lunch, please send a note to let me know. Lunches have to be ordered by 8:15. The cost for lunches is $3.50.

    General Information
    Monday, November 19 will be a make-up day for school pictures. Any child that was absent on Picture Day (Sept. 21) will be able to have his/her picture made on November 19. I have updated our classroom blog with information, activities and events from the current school year.
