6TH GRADE HAPPENINGS...

Concession Stand Lunch will be on May 28th. The menu was attached to last weeks
newsletter and sent home again on Tuesday, May 19th. Students are encouraged to
discuss their menu choices at home.
WOW! It is so hard to believe that we will be wishing our 6th graders good luck in Junior
High School soon! Before we give them those last words of encouragement and remind
them to do well we will be honoring their intermediate years at Bentley! On June 5th we
will be treating our students to breakfast cooked by the wonderful Bentley teachers and
served up family style. We will be serving pancakes, sausage and fruit cocktail along with
apple juice. If you need ingredients please let us know ahead of time. After breakfast we
will honor each student. This is a student only event. We will send home the memory
sheet we have completed for the last 3 years at Bentley so you can see! This is a special
day and we encourage all students to dress up like they were going out to eat. This is an
exciting event at Bentley that we are so proud to host for our students! Please let your
child's homeroom teacher know if they cannot participate in the meal. Thank you for
sharing your children with us. We have enjoyed getting to know them and watching them
grow into the ne young students that we are sending to 7th grade!
On Friday, June 6 all Bentley students will participate in Fun Rotations. All students will
be playing kickball, whife ball, volleyball, and other fun games. Students should dress
for the weather, wear gym shoes, and bring a water bottle.
A friendly reminder that all online school supplies must be ordered by Monday, June
9th.

MRS. MORGAN
This week we nished reading Where the Red
Fern Grows. Most students were touched by the
ending. We talked about how the best books touch
our heart and play with our emotions. Many
students realized why the ending had to be the
way it was based on the plot of the story. Next
week we will continue with Story Town. We will do
components of the last units, but we will not take
any assessments.
MR. RAKOCZY
Rakoczy Language Arts: This week we read an
expository nonction selection titledNext Stop
Neptune. During this lesson, we worked with
KWL chart, drawing/evaluating conclusions, fact/
opinion, shades of meaning, and comparing and
contrasting. We are still reading The Westing
Game and doing comprehension questions
together. Next week, we will continue with
StoryTown and reading The Westing Game.
Have a safe and happy holiday!
Rakoczy Social Studies: This week we have been
working with traits and genetics. We have looked
at our own traits and created a puppy from the
genes passed down from our male and female
cartoon dogs. From our Puppy Nursery, we
analyzed the traits of each dog and compared and
contrasted them to the class. We also made "Our
Name in DNA" and made a zipper pull. Next
week, we will begin learning about Rome. Have a
safe and happy holiday!
MS. RUHL
We will complete our last full unit of StoryTown
next week - Lesson 28! We will work on
components of Lessons 29 and 30 during class
time the nal week of school. The students are
still working on drawing reasonable conclusions
and supporting those conclusions with relevant
evidence. This is a tough concept for many
students. You can support your child at home by
asking inference questions. There are examples
of question-starters under the "Reading" tab on
my website. Next week, we hope to nish reading
our novel "Crispin." The class started performing
their roles for "Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!" this
week, which is helping us to learn more about
what life was like in the Middle Ages and further
visualize the setting of our novel. We will do an
activity next week to learn more about some of
the peasants' revolts during this time period. As
you can see, we have plenty to keep us busy for
the rest of the school year! Encourage your
children to keep up the great effort during this
home stretch! I would hate to see grades suffer
because of summer-itis!
MISS TENBROECK
Math: This week in math, we completed chapter 3
learning how to do operations with both positive
and negative integers. Students played "25" the
card game in groups to practice adding and
subtracting with both positive and negative
numbers. Next week we will review all operations
and take the chapter 3 test on Wednesday.
Science: This week in science, we continued
chapter 3 learning about traits and reproduction.
Students learned about dominant and recessive
traits and we discussed the different traits we
inherit from our parents. We played traits bingo
and created our own dogs using "DNA" chosen at
random from a bag. Next week, we will be
nishing chapter 4 and reviewing for the test that
will be on Thursday.
MRS. VOSS
This week in math we reviewed the coordinate
plane and practiced adding, subtracting,
multiplying and dividing with positive and
negative integers. We continue to use the integer
song students learned in 5th grade to help us
remember how to add and subtract correctly.
Next week we will review integer operations
along with coordinate plane, absolute value, and
ordering integers. We will test on Chapter 3 on
Thursday, 5/29. Chicken update: We are
anxiously awaiting the hatching of our chicken
eggs, which should be happening sometime
between Sunday and Tuesday. With the help of
Mrs. Morgan, we will be setting up a web cam to
help us keep an eye on our chicks over the long
weekend. The following week we will be looking
forward to Mr. Rakoczy's duck eggs hatching.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend.
