Our NWEA tests start next week. This will be taken again in the winter, as well as in
the spring. This test will show the areas that students need the most support and

-ot, -op, -ock, -ob, and -og.
Now that weve built our stamina and have started combining the different compo-

We will start our first Social Studies unit! Our focus will be on communities, as we
prepare for our Bluffton Experience field trip. We will brainstorm a list of things we
would like to know about the places in our community and will even get a special visit
form Mayor Ted Ellis!
In writing, we will be focusing on conventions. We will talk about the importance of
good handwriting, leaving spaces between our words, and using capital letters cor-
rectly.
In math, we will continue going over our addition and subtraction strategies. Our
strategies next week are power punch, doubles, and using doubles to subtract!
Remember to have your child complete his or her homework each night!

Friday Journals
Please remember to write in your
childs Friday Journal each week-
end. I know you are all extremely
busy, but your child LOVES hear-
ing what you write to him or her
each week. It can be something as
Weve had another great
week together! Some of the high-
lights from this week include reach-
ing 15 minutes in our Work on Writ-
ing, as well as maintaining 15
minutes in Read to Self. We also
were able to utilize our iPads a lot
this week as we began our Listen to
Reading component of our Daily 5.
In math, we are becoming
really great at using our strategies
to help us solve addition and sub-
traction problems. This week we
focused on subtracting all, counting
on/back, and power punching for
addition and subtraction.
This week, students started
writing their own stories during our
Writers Workshop time. We dis-
cussed all the different things that
we can write about and how its im-
portant to Write from the heart!
Ask your child some of the things he
or she included in the writing heart
we created. I can already tell weve
got some really great authors in our
group!
We had some fun activities
for our short i work. Students en-
joyed going on scavenger hunts
throughout the room to find short i
words!
Every ones favorite part of
the week was when we celebrated
Cliffords birthday! We were able to
enjoy punch and cookies as well as
decorate birthday cards and read
Clifford books. It was a crazy day,
but we had lots of fun! Thanks for
making sure your child wore red to
school!
