Dear Parents, This is the last week of the first semester. Report cards will be sent home on Friday, January 25; please check your childs backpack. Thursday, Jan 24 we will be making pizza in the classroom. We could use some parents to help the students with cutting and rolling out. Please email me or send a note in your childs homework notebook if you can help. Language arts - We've been enjoying books by Jan Brett with their beautiful and detailed pictures. This week we'll add the word illustrations to the academic vocabulary notebooks, since it connects so well with Jan Brett. We'll be continuing with our regular Daily Five time. The students have been enjoying Storybird. Some of the published stories are linked on the blog and some are here. Bible - We have the same Bible memory verse this week, so it would be a good time to say the books of the Bible. Thank you for helping your child with the Christian life booklet that has been going home each night. We will have our assessment on Thursday this week. You can help your child by discussing what a Christian life should look like and sound like.

Mathematics - The students drew a snowman and then wrote directions last week. The next day a partner drew the snowman from the directions. Check out the results on the hallway bulletin board. We continue to look at 3-dimensional shapes and how to describe them. We will be discussing prisms, pyramids, cubes, spheres, cones, cylinders, faces, bases, edges and vertex. This unit has much vocabulary and it would be good for you to review terms with your child at home. Please encourage your child to practice IXL at least 30 minutes a week at home.
