B16: THATCHED ROOF (ALANG ALANG ROOF)

SECTION I : GENERAL A. Scope of Work 1. Including the scope is all work to covered the roof by thatched roof as determined in drawing and specification here in. 2. Provide skill full workers, materials, tools and other supporting materials and tools or equipment for thatched roof work to get appropriate installation and quality. A. Materials 1. Specification a. Kind : Thatched piece layer (ikatan), roled tiles (gulungan) and filled ties (gambahan). b. Quality : Thatched raw material should be taken from mountain range with physically more fat and longer because more health. c. Size : Accordance to market availability. - Ikatan (thatched piece layer) is apiece layer of thatched after installed by roled the thatched on bamboo bone and ties by bamboo rope with length approximately 2 3 meter. Thatched piece layer (ikatan) with thatched rolled 20 cm underside should be installed from inner eave board to the top. Thatched piece layer (ikatan) with thatched rolled 50 cm underside should be installed from outer eave board to inner eave board. - Gulungan (rolled ties) is parts of thatched (alang - alang) ties together on based with diameter approximately 10 15 cm and it has 5 ties. The length approximately 60 cm. - Gambahan (filled ties) is parts of thatched (alang alang) ties together on the based with diameter 10 15 cm and has only one ties. The length approximately 60 cm. Maintenance and Durability. a. Maintenance: It is effortable to dry instantly after get wet because of rain. It would be better if free from trees shade. Wet condition for along time will destroy the thatched material shortly. b. Durability: Thatched in good quality will has life time from 10 15 years. The life time period of thatched roof will depend on some factors: - Material quality and method of installation process. It should select the best quality of material and do the correct process. The thatched has to be straight and neat to keep maintain the water flow in good condition. - The neighbors condition that must free from shade and in good air circulation. - Climate, especially on humidity and rain density. - Roof thickness and the roof slooping. Installation a. Thatched piece layer (ikatan) has to be installed from bottom top up, ties to the bamboo rafters with ate rope. The distance from one layer to the next layer on centerline of bamboo bone in 4 cm on bottom (1 /4 roof part from outter eave board) and 6 7 cm on above part. b. Gulungan (rolled ties) and Gambahan (filled ties) will be utilized on roof ridge. Gulungan: shoud be installed firstly with ties by bamboo rope to pieces of bamboo on ridge. c. Gambahan: should be installed after gulungan that should be fastening by bamboo pin to gulungan. d. Gulungan (rolled ties) also should be utilized on bottom of roof as based of thatched piece layer (ikatan) to get more thickness on bottom roof usually. e. The last step on installation is to cut off the end line of roof to get line up and neat. f. Thatched roof has to be fastened, neatly and tight.
