I.

Delighting in prayer is ignited by longing for God (v. 1)

Ps 63:1

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you,

The psalmist recollects from the past The psalmist misses God, the experience in public worship

Delighting in prayer is inspired by expecting future worship experience (vv. 2-4)

Ps 63:3

my lips will glorify you. Ps 63:4 I will praise you as long as I live , and in your name I will lift up my hands.

The activity of praising, blessing, and lifting of hands takes place in the sanctuary. Lifting up hands is a sign of directing ones prayers and praise toward God, and helps the worshipper focus his thoughts on God.

What is his ground of expectation?

Ps 63:3

Because your love is better than life

III.

Delighting in prayer is instilled by depending on our God (vv. 5-8)

Ps 63:6

On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.

The delight in God is not limited to the sanctuary Where we can find delight in prayer? A. In the memory of Gods presence and promises mediated in public worship.

B. Gods help in times past

Ps 63:6

On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Ps 63:7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. Ps 63:8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
