Summary of Lesson Content


CONTENT (Animated video) The theme of this lesson is centred around social issues and that of patriotism. The activity focuses on the students listening skills. Students listen to a conversation among Za k, JJ and George. The three boys are out camping. They talk about going back to school which begins in a couple of days. Their new teacher is Mr Otto Wen. Students will listen to various speech acts like how to begin a conversation, turn -taking, agreeing and disagreeing, asking questions, giving opinions and ending a conversation. Moral values about patriotism and appreciating the peace and harmony in Malaysia are inculcated explicitly in the lesson. Towards the end of the conversation the boys realize how lucky they are to be living in Malaysia.

ACTIVITY 1 (Level: Easy) Activity focuses on the students listening skills. Fill in the blanks at word level. Complete the sentences given with the correct information. Click on the video button for help.

ACTIVITY 2 (Level: Difficult) Activity focuses on the students listening skills. Fill in the blanks at phrase and clause level. Discuss the possible answers and complete the given sentences. Watch the video again for some help.

ENHANCEMENT Activity picks up a useful phrase as a teaching point - come to think of it. Group Work: Decide if the phrase come to think of it is used correctly in the given sentences.

EXTENSION Application of higher order thinking skills. Group work: Write 5 sentences on why Malaysians are very lucky and why it is wonderful to be Malaysian.
