PRODUCTION REFLECTION GRID
Pre-Production Production
During pre production our original idea for
Research mise- en – scene (Location) was to film in
a drama room, however this was changed
because we decided to make it have a
and Planning sense of feel that the witness was giving
evidence and not being interrogated. We
used a normal room which did not have
dark lighting like the drama room.
For creativity in pre-production we watched
Creativity films such as Phone booth and One hour
photo, these films in particular helped to
see how the two are different and how it
influenced in deciding for our production. In
one hour photo, where we see the main
character in a white room all alone, helped
us to have something similar. Also,
memento also helped through seeing a
non-linear narrative is good when including
twists and red-herrings, which we included
to make it conventional.
During pre production we used digital

Post-Production
During production we planned our
production to not have any flashbacks,
despite this we decided that using
flashbacks in appropriate scene will make
our thriller conventional. Also during our
research it was suggested to us from a
survey movies such as Memento would be
a good choice to form ideas as they have a
non-linear narrative which we done through
flashbacks.
In production we used creativity in the
sense of shot type. During production we
experimented with a variety of shots, for
example we filmed the scenes where Mr
Harris was being attacked in the restroom
from different angles, and shot types. We
shot it a low angle, high angle and straight
on. For shot type we used over the
shoulder, two shot, close ups/ mid shots.
This gave us a range of shots to use in
editing.
During production we used a DV camera to
record the footage. We also used garage
band to create the music, also listening to
music from YouTube influenced the style of
music to create on garage band
During post production we created the
typography. Our first plan was to make the
titles look as if it was on a folder to keep
within the sub-genre. However we changed
our idea as we thought it may be slightly
difficult to create this, so we decide to use
the “typewriter” effect which still keeps with
in the sub-genre (Legal). Also, whilst editing
we realised that some parts did not fit well,
and needed to be re-filmed again. (Explained

To have creativity in post production we
used a lot of fast pace cuts. The first pace
cuts was particularly used to show the state
of mind of Mr Harris which was supported
with the music being distorted.
Uploading the production to YouTube,
allowed us to get feedback, and then making
further changes. For example making
changes with the music, we first decided not
to include any music but then from feedback
from other we included music and sound
effects.
 Pre-Production
Looking at movies such as The usual
Similar Texts suspects we planned to use twists as we
saw the effect (“edge of the seat”) it had on
the audience, which we wanted to have.
Also, Memento having a non-linear
narrative influenced us to have this style as
we thought it would have a better effect
when using red-herrings and flashbacks.
We did not plant to include flashbacks in
Post our production, but once we got to editing
we thought that we needed to add a few
flashbacks in order to clarify the narrative
Production more and also to make more of a “thriller”
using one of the conventions (flashbacks).
Production
When filming we used the idea of one hour
photo being in the white room that looked
an “interview room” all alone, this was used
when Mr. Harris was left alone in the room
and he was nervous and uneasy. Also,
with the costume we used the idea of
concealing the killer from Zodiac (David
Fincher, 2007).
We had to r-film several close ups due to
lighting issues and also we had to re-film
the reaction shot from Mr Harris when DC
Sharma takes out a notepad. We done this
as it did not have verisimilitude without the
reaction shot looking realistic.
Post-Production
For post production, similar texts will be how
the fast pace cuts was done in the editing
which can also been seen in a lot of
thrillers, such as phone booth. Within phone
booth when the antagonist is nervous and
something is occurring there would be fast
pace cuts to add to the sense that
everything is happening quick.
In post production we filmed a voice over of
DC Sharma's voice saying “are you sure” in
order for the reaction shot of Mr Harris to
work.
