Preface
The best reason for using libraries is:
1. Saving money by reusing features and parts. It is faster to design your equipment.
2. The other aspect is reducing the number of parts (and features) used in your
company.
3. The third aspect could be is to achieve a better compatibility by using standard parts.
Because it is easy to build your own libraries it is very attractive to do so.
From an European point of view some of the predefined libraries in Pro/Engineer is of no
use as they are based on American standards and build to the Inch system.
These parts of the libraries are not included in the library structure at DTU.

Predefined libraries
Basic Library
The BASIC LIBRARY is a collection of commonly used parts and features ready to use in your
assemblies and parts.
Contents of the Basic Library
The BASIC LIBRARY contains the following sections:
• Common features—A collection of commonly used features (pertaining to geometry,
design, piping, and so on) of generic shapes (such as hexagonal, oval, and octagonal) and
sizes. These are UDFs with cross-sections, feature attributes, relations, and layer
information built into the feature. The features are ready to use in your parts.
• Standardized parts—A collection of common fasteners (bolts, nuts, rivets, screws, and so
on) of sizes corresponding to ANSI, USAS, and other standards. The parts are easily
retrievable using common callouts (such as basic diameter and rivet size) and are ready to
use in your assemblies.
• Metric parts—A collection of common fasteners in metric sizes that conform to ANSI
standards. These parts are also retrievable using common callouts, and are ready to use in
assemblies.
• ISO fasteners and parts—A collection of common fasteners and parts that conform to the
ISO standard. These parts are retrievable using common callouts and are ready to use in
assemblies.
Features library.
Library features offer the following advantages:
• The features are already made, completely defined with appropriate dimensioning schemes
and relations, and are generically sized and located on a reference part. This means that
you can use the feature in your part, sized and placed to suit your needs.
• Library features can be modified by you and stored back in the library where other users
can access them. This allows you to add a family table to the feature if you have specific
sizes of the feature you use frequently. This saves your users the time of modifying the
dimensions of the feature when they retrieve it.
• You can also add your own features to the feature library directory, making all your own
UDFs available as library features. Expanding the library enhances its use because your
users will not have to spend time recreating your generic features.
To use an existing UDF, you need either a Pro/FEATURE or a Pro/LIBRARYACCESS license.
To create your own UDFs, you need a Pro/FEATURE license.
The contents of the features library are in short:

The PIPING & HEATING LIBRARY Catalog contains illustrations of all the piping and heating library symbols and
all the information necessary to find any symbol.
Tutorial
Threaded holes and srews
1. In a dummy part as shown, a pattern of 6 threaded holles has to be
created.
2. A cover with a pattern of 6 holes has to be created.
3. An assembly has to be created and the dummy part and the cover
have to be assembled..
4. Finally a drawing with the assembly has to be created in order to
see that all parts fits properly together.
The dummy part
After modeling the dummy part the threaded holes are to be created.
Feature > Hole.
1) Mark: Standard Hole Á
2) Ajust Screw Size to M10x1.5
3) Ajust the depth of the hole(s) to 30 mm, Accept
with <cr>.
4) Ajuster thread length to 25 mm Accept with
<cr>.
5) Under Hole Placement point as close as possible
to the point where the hole has to be placed.
6) Under Placement Type: change to Diameter.
7) As an Axial Reference: point at the Axis for hole
pattern..
8) The Diameter has to be ajusted to 80 mm.
9) As an Angular Reference:choose TOP. (Activate
if necessary)
The screws
The screws to be used are from the standard parts library
Use the Open File-menuen and choose:
LIBRARIES
objlib Basic library
isofastlib Fasteners and standard parts. ISO standard.
isohexboltscr External Drive Hexagon Head Bolts and Screws.
ihsa.prt Hex Head Screws. Grade A&B - ISO 4017 - 1988
(The different types of screws (and other standard parts can be studiet with Adobe Reader via
P:\manuals_2000i\Lib\basic.pdf. Se on page 454-455 to find the ihsa-screws.)
Choose: By Parameter > M10x1.5 (Open)
Select a screw with the length of 30 mm
Add a thread with Feature > Create > Cosmetic > Thread and define it in
accordance with the norm. (THREAD_DIST 4.5 mm)
Save the screw to the (local) database with Save As, and assign it with the
name M10x30.
Clean the screen (and memory) and load M10x30 from the database.
The assembly
Create an assembly and assemble the dummy part and the cover.
Assemble a M10x30 screw in the upper hole.
Doing this: use Orient to orient the screw in such a
way that it takes up most possible space in the critical
direction. Leaving sufficient space for the screw head
and for the wrench.
Before leaving the assembly: define a vertical X-
section.
Use: Set Up > X-Section
Drawing
In order for the line display of the assembly to be
correct, the following conditions must be true:
• The internal diameter of the hole must be equal to
the diameter of the bolt’s cosmetic thread.
• The diameter of the bolt must be equal to the
diameter of the hole’s cosmetic thread.
Also the drawing setup file must be set as follow:
“hlr_for_threads” set to “yes” and
“thread_standard” set to “std_iso_imp_assy”
