What students do: The Ss watch a video and talk about it. Then the Ss
say whether they have any strange neighbors and if they have, they talk
about them.
Grouping: Whole class
Objectives:
- To motivate Ss for the lesson

- To attract their attention to the topic

- To arouse their interest

Steps:
• The teacher starts the lesson by showing a photo of Burhan Altıntop-
a character in a TV series called “Avrupa Yakası”- and then asks the
students whether they know that man. As almost all the students
know Burhan, it is possible to get the answer “yes” from them.
• The teacher shows his video with one of his neighbors. Then the T
asks “What kind of neighbor is Burhan? Is he friendly,
understanding, respectful or agreeable?”
• After getting the students’ answers, the T asks the Ss whether they
have any strange or interesting neighbors like Burhan.
• The T says “Think about that a person like Burhan is your neighbor.
He is always doing something that disturbs you. You want to say
that you are disturbed and ask him politely not to do these
disturbing things. What would you say him?”
• The T provides the Ss helping language for the next activity and
gives the structure of “would you mind doing…?”, “I would be
grateful if ...”, “could you/would you/can you ... ?”, “excuse
me/pardon me”…

WHILE-SPEAKING
Time: 10 min.
Materials: Role cards
Interaction: Ss/Ss
What students do: The Ss have some role cards and some situations.
They make up sentences by using the structures they have learnt
according to the situation.
Grouping: Pair work
Aims:

- To create a communicative atmosphere

- To get them to use the structure of “would you mind doing…?”, “I

would be grateful if ...”, “could you/would you/can you ... ?”, “excuse
me/pardon me”…
Steps:

• One of the pairs is Burhan and the other one is his neighbor. The Ss
have role cards on which some situations are written. Burhan does
always something that disturbs his neighbor and the neighbor tries
to ask him politely not to do these disturbing things by using the
