MINUTES OF THE TOWN OF NEWBOLD LAKES COMMITTEE TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2011 Newbold Town Hall, Highway 47, North, Rhinelander, WI 54501 The meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm. The following lakes and their representatives were present: Tom Doyle Lake (Tim Thuemling, Jim Staskiewicz and Karyl Rosenberg), Two Sisters Lake (Paul Kuhn and Bill Jaeger), and Flannery/Velvet Lakes (J.R. Bartelt). Jeff Ewald (Pickerel Lake) and Connie Muckelberg (Lake Mildred) were excused. Paul Kuhn moved and JR Bartelt seconded the approval of the minutes of the July 19, 2011 meeting as corrected. Motion carried on a voice vote. The following lake reports were given: Two Sisters LakePaul reported that the stakeholders survey is shaping up. He further notified the committee that TSLPOA is conducting an additional shoreland survey. Flannery/Velvet Lake J.R. reported that the bladderwort has sunk and disappeared almost as suddenly as it appeared. The lake association is continuing its H2O monitoring, partially in the hope that some connection can be made between water characteristics and bladderwort appearance. J.R.also notified the committee at their lake association party was a success. Tom Doyle Lake conducted their own internal survey of the lake for invasive species. Tim reported that the lake appears free of AIS, but a very few discoveries of purple loosestrife have appeared in the area and were removed. Tim believes that use of the lakes landing is down this year. A wide ranging discussion on the final preparations for the annual Newbold Firemans Picnic on Saturday occurred. All responsibilities have been covered. The schedule for booth coverage will go out on email. Grants A wide ranging discussion was held regarding the possibility of applying for a grant as a committee. By consensus it was decided to explore the possibility of an educational grant that focused on shoreland suggestions, based upon an idea from Two Sisters Lake welcome packet. Paul will do some digging and bring a copy to the next meeting. The next meeting will be Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 5:30 pm at the Newbold Town Hall.
