TEMPORARY, PART-TIME POSITION Position Title: Public Art Coordinator Salary: $50,000 range (one year contract) Hours:

32 hours week City of Raleigh Arts Commission Location: 222 West Hargett Street, Raleigh, NC GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION Coordinate the development of public art projects for the City of Raleigh as part of the new percent for art program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned): Oversee the implementation of public art projects in locations throughout the City; Work directly with the Arts Commission Public Art and Design Board on select city public art projects and programs; Develop strategic plans, timelines and budgets for new public art projects. Assist in the development of long-range plans, goals, and the development of programs to achieve planning goals; Assist Executive Director and Public Art and Design Board in assessing, developing and refining public art policies and procedures. Represent the Public Art Program in project development and budget discussions and negotiations with other agencies; Work with the Selection Committees to commission artists for designated sites; Manage project implementation with the artists from selection and commissions through installation; Act as liaison with city personnel to coordinate all aspects of the projects; Develop public art community outreach opportunities and education; Track public art project contracts, and maintain records of projects according to City requirements; Plan for maintenance and upkeep for projects, working with the appropriate city department(s) and personnel; Coordinate calls for artists and artist registry; Prepare public art presentations for the Arts Commission and make recommendations of artists for specific projects; Make public presentations as needed to promote public art projects; Prepare written materials such as press releases, speaking points, contracts and brochures, as needed.

GENERAL DUTIES The responsibilities associated with this position include specific tasks as stated above as well as additional efforts to promote public art in Raleigh. The individual will coordinate with the Executive Director of the City of Raleigh Arts Commission, who is the Coordinators supervisor and official link to the Arts Commission, Commission Committees, Public Art and Design Board, Task Forces and the City Administration. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Minimum BA or BFA (concentration in visual arts/art history, or related fields); graduate degree in arts and/or related business field preferred. Experience: Requires four years professional level experience in arts administration or related public art, gallery, corporate, architectural or design experience. Professional level knowledge of contemporary art theory and history, artistic media, and arts program administration. Experience handling sensitive issues, and making independent judgments. Computer Skills: Excellent computer, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency in software applications including Word, Excel, Photoshop, and other graphics packages. Knowledge of Caf public art system helpful.

Candidates Background: Capable of working in a team environment, with large number of people including artists, city officials, commission members, architects and others. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to collect, analyze, and summarize information. Ability to foster creativity and problem-solving, and remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment. Able to work under pressure of deadlines. Available to work occasional evenings and weekends. Certifications, Licenses, Registration: Required to have a valid NC Class C drivers license.
