The video starts of by showing Rihanna shooting a man and then it gives a caption saying yesterday morning which tells the audience it is going to show what happened previously. It then goes back to the morning where it shows Rihanna walking round the streets which shows its a third world country. Later on she goes to a club where she is raped, which then explains why she shot the man at the beginning of the video. Barthess theory is evident in this music video as the enigma is why she shot the man, which is then resolved(resolution) later on when we realise she wanted revenge from the man as he had raped her. This is also evident in the lyrics as she sings about shooting a man. Todorovs theory is also evident in this video about the three phases, equilibrium, disruption, and re-equilibrium. We are shown the re-equilibrium first, where she shoots the man who had raped her. Then we see the equilibrium of her walking through the streets and going to the club as normal, which is followed up by the disruption which is the scene where she gets raped. Levi-strausss theory about conflicts is also shown in this video, as we see Rihanna as the hero, and the man who rapes her as the villain, and we see the hero winning in the end. Propps theory is slightly evident as we see rihanna as the hero, and also the victim, and the villain as her conscience and the man who raped her.
