A Little History
Built in 1897 by A. MacDonald and Company, the present Jacksons building started its life as a grocery store. The building sold in 1899 for $11,500 to a consortium of businessmen. The building has had many tenants over its 115 plus years including the Nelson Electric Tramway Society, Mayor J.A. MacDonald, and the A.S. Horswill Company Merchants which you will find still painted on the front of the building. After this, Mr. Kilfords Second Hand Store, a barber shop, All Stars Caf, Mama Rosas Italian Restaurant, Rickabys Restaurant, and since 2006, Jacksons Hole & Grill have all called this building home. Many times the interior of this great building has seen extensive renovations, however, the walls and floors remain the same as they were in 1897. In1986 the Hollywood hit Roxanne, used this building for the fictitious Dixies Caf, starring Darryl Hannah and Steve Martin.
