PERFECT BLESSING

Famous cities and the crowds
Those swirl through their glowing nights.
I loved remote horizons with far clouds
Girdled, and fringed about heights.

I loved fair women, their sweet ways
Of wearing among hands that desire and implore.
The rose bloom at the rainbow's base
That bounds the world's desire and all its need.

Natural world whose fruitfulness
Embraces every vision the most fair,
Of perfect blessing.
From a boy I gloated on existence.
Earth to me seemed sufficient
One trembling opportunity for joy.

PERFECT FOR THE OCCASION

I have been thinking for some great erotic poetry
That would suit my feelings Is planning to move
He rallied the voters and got them to groove
Through political red tape and press backlash
His election campaign earned quite some cash

He stepped up to the pitcher’s mound
And proved he’s the best candidate around
Well then, don’t you know he’s going to the big show

For someone special in my life for the past 54 years.
Yours were perfect for the occasion.

Perfect Poetry

The arrow needs an archer, and poetry a magician. He must ever hold in his mind the scales of meter, rejecting the long and the short. Truth is his mistress, astride a black steed, veiled in allegory. From beneath her lashes shoot a hundred unerring glances.

The poet will decorate her fingers with multihued jewels; adorn her with the perfume and scent of saffron metaphor. Alliteration will ring like footballs; on her bosom will be the mystery of concealed rhyme. Together with the secrets of inner meaning, the concealing eyes, these make her body a perfection of mystery.
You can tear a poem apart to see what makes it tick…. You’re back with the mystery of having been moved by words.

The best craftsmanship always leaves holes and gaps… so that something that is not in the poem can creep, crawl, flash or thunder in.

WILFRED JOHN

Perfection’s Purity

The beautiful soul should never actually do anything,
since any action or inscription
defaces their perfection’s purity.

And effaces the complacent memory
of whatever they dreamed themselves to be -
perfectly beautiful, perfectly free -
so, really, a beautiful soul would be better off dead.
