STAGE 2 RESTART

K – 12 EDUCATION OPTIONS
Parent Information Sheet September 2020

The BC Ministry of Education priority in Stage 2 is to have all students

participate fully in in-class learning. The BC Education Restart Plan,
states that “having students in the classroom helps to minimize learning
gaps, and provide the academic, social and emotional supports essential
for learning”.

The Chilliwack School District Stage 2 Restart Plan prioritizes Full-time

in-class instruction for students in Kindergarten through to Grade
12: This option has students safely returning to full-time in-class
instruction with set cohorts/learning groups, physical distancing and mask
protocols as outlined by the Provincial Health Officer and the BC Centre
for Disease Control. Please see your school website for specific details.

The Chilliwack School District will also provide the following options for some students:

LEARN FROM HOME: TRANSITION SUPPORT HYBRID PROGRAM (Elementary and Middle)
Elementary & Middle – Distributed Learning

Duration: Temporary support for students who are not attending their
catchment school in person (COVID related reasons). This support is
conducted by means of distributed learning.
Supports:
• A teacher will support in key learning areas: language arts, math and
core competencies which are central to the curriculum and are
foundational to all learning.
• Student remains connected to their school and classroom
• Students will learn remotely at home with the assistance of a teacher
assigned by the district (not their regular classroom teacher).
• The Homebound Online Teacher will connect with students periodically
throughout the week.
Access: Please contact your school principal to discuss this option.
Secondary
Duration: Temporary support for students who are not attending their
catchment school (COVID related reasons). This support is conducted by
means of distributed learning.
Supports:
• A teacher will support at home learning in one course for Octet 1
(Personal Development 10/11/12). Other courses will be considered
through the year based on need.
• Student remains connected to their school and classroom
• Students will learn remotely at home with the assistance of a district-
based teacher. Plans beyond Octet 1 are still in development and will be
limited in course choice.
• The Transition Support Teacher will connect with students periodically
throughout the week.
Access: Please contact your school principal to discuss this option.
NOTE: Students enrolled in a remote learning option will have the
option of returning to In-Class Learning. (Secondary: at the beginning of
each Octet.)
Duration: Full-time continuing blended learning program with
2 days face-to-face and 3 days online. This is not a COVID
response program, but an ongoing program of choice.
Supports: Teacher and Home facilitator
Access: Registration process on district website
MEDICAL (Hospital) HOMEBOUND
Duration: Short to mid term support for students with medical
condition (Non-COVID related)
Supports: Student Services staff and the classroom teacher
Access: In consultation with the school. Medical note required.
FIRST NATIONS ON-RESERVE SUPPORT (K-12)
– Aboriginal Education Department
Duration: Temporary support for students who are not
attending their catchment schools (COVID related reasons)
Supports: Teacher outreach support in key learning areas -
student remains connected to the catchment school and SD33
Aboriginal Department
Access: Please contact your school principal or SD33
Aboriginal Department to discuss this option.
Note: Students enrolled in the Outreach/Remote Learning
option will have the option of returning to In-Class Learning.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS
Distributed Learning Schools offered through an online learning center using BC curriculum and under the supervision of a BC certified teacher
with support from a home facilitator.

Homeschooling options offered with a home facilitator (Example: family member) responsible for planning & delivering the educational program.
