At Lord Byng Secondary our goal is to provide a safe learning environment that enables students to challenge their intellectual and creative abilities and allows them to meet their full potential as citizens.
Equipm ent and Materials needed EACH day in class: 3-Ring Binder (2" min) with 4 dividers and extra foolscap 3 spiral bind notebooks, lined and 3 hole ready. pencil case at least 2 pens (dark blue and black ink) at least 2 pencils (HB #2) eraser (white recommended) small ruler Student Agenda (intact and unaltered) Silent Reading Book . Text book currently being used Course Fee No set course fee, though students may be asked to participate in events or activities for which payment will be requested. Course Content MIEN 9 will include the following areas of study: The novel, short story, poetry, Shakespeare, language and usage, literary analysis, expository & creative work. W ritten, oral & multimodal responses to literature and works studied. Paragraph development. MIEN Lit9 includes and encourages the enrichment of curriculum through multiliteracies activities; when possible, students' artistic interests will be used to facilitate their literary engagement, study and analysis. Note: Participation in class discussions is required & expected; inclass writing is a major component of Byng's English Courses. Lit 9 puts emphasis on creativity.

Students will have opportunities to develop and demonstrate that they can explore creative writing and publication,

communicate effectively in written, spoken, and visual forms. develop positive attitudes toward language learning. make connections to other areas of study and to life outside the classroom. think critically, creatively, and reflectively. appreciate their own culture and the culture of others. use technology. Tests Notify me in advance, if you know that you will be W hen handing in work for me to mark, use YOUR absent for a test. Cheating, which includes plagiarism , is a serious offence and will result in a score of zero.
