Workforce Readiness- Business & Education Partnerships

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Across the nation there is a strong movement to align K-12 curriculum with employer needs. Whether you call it school-to-work transition, career readiness or 21st Century Skills, it boils down to the same principal of how to better prepare students to meet the career needs of today and tomorrow. This presentation will provide an overview of the many tools available to employers throughout the New North region to interact with area school districts. Specifically, well demonstrate several career planning software packages used by school districts and provide information on how employers can utilize these platforms to reach students; discuss initiatives specific to the Greater Green Bay area including the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Summit that was hosted by the Green Bay Public School District in conjunction with the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce; provide summary feedback from the Brown County 20/20 Summit that presented the challenge of creating more collaborative efforts between employers and school districts; and highlight some of the initiatives being implemented by the New North Attract, Develop and Retain Diverse Talent Committee to address work force readiness issues across a continuum of skill levels including student learners, young professionals and our aging population. ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Brian Johnson earned his Associate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc and his Bachelor degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin. His career has included roles in government, non-profit and the private sector including 7 years as a small business owner. In his current role at the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, Brian manages career exploration programs for K-12 students and educators for the Partners in Education program. In addition, he develops programming to attract, engage, develop and retain young talent to Greater Green Bay. Johnsons community involvement currently includes serving as President, UW Manitowoc Foundation Board; Board of Directors, UW Colleges/UW Extension Board of Visitors; Chair, New North Attract, Develop and Retain Diverse Talent Committee; Board Member, St. Norbert College Employer Advisory Board, among other commitments. He has received many awards throughout his career including the Lee Grugel Memorial Leadership Award, Jim Hallet Memorial Leadership Award and UW Manitowoc Dean's Award for Community Excellence. He was honored in 2009 as a 40 under 40 recipient by Sail, The Chamber of Manitowoc County's young professionals network. He has also garnered recent recognition for his efforts on a video campaign for Current, the Green Bay Chambers young professionals group, in which he scripted and narrated a kinetic video that earned a Gold ADDY award from the American Advertising Federation and a national Bronze award from American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE).

Menu Chicken Milano, a mixture of sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and fresh basil, slow simmered with red
bell peppers over a chicken breast. The vegetarian option will be Cheese Tortellini with Alfredo sauce. Both entrees include a salad, starch, vegetables, dinner rolls, coffee and milk..
