JOINT PRESS RELEASE By Octorara Area School District Board of School Directors And Octorara Area Educational Support Personnel Association
The Octorara Area School District Board of Directors voted on Monday, October 15, 2012 to approve an agreement with the Octorara Area Educational Support Personnel Association. The agreement was ratified earlier in the day by the Octorara Area Educational Support Personnel Association which represents ninety-seven (97) staff of which seventeen (17) are salaried employees and eighty (80) are hourly employees. The agreement is for two (2) years starting on July 1, 2012 and ending on June 30, 2014. The agreement calls for a pay freeze for two years and an increase in health care premiums and co-pays for the salaried employees. The agreement calls for salaried employees to work a twohundred thirty day (230) year which is a reduction of ten (10) days from the previous twohundred forty (240) day term. Hourly employees will receive a $0.35 per hour increase in 2012-2013 and a $0.45 per hour increase in 2013-2014. However, most hourly bargaining unit members were subject to a nonnegotiated reduction of hours worked. This group does not receive health care benefits.

The agreement is the result from ten months of hard work by the two parties amounting to at least one hundred hours of work and deliberation by the negotiating teams. Both parties took the time to listen to the concerns of the other party while building trust and finding areas of compromise in an atmosphere of mutual respect. The Board of Directors and the Association believe this product, arrived at in this fashion, will benefit the students, families and tax payers of the Octorara Area School District.

The mission of the Octorara Area School District, through a partnership among school, community and family, is to promote educational excellence in a safe, secure environment, empowering our students with the skills necessary to be successful, responsible members of society.
