October 25, 2012 Dear Prospective Volunteer:

Thank you for your interest in the EDGE Tutor/Mentor programs. Our mission is to equip families with the necessary tools to successfully raise and support their children. We provide real solutions to real issues faced by families in our community. EDGE (Education, Development, Growth,Empowerment) is our flagship program that was piloted in partnership with Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church last year to equip local Charlotte Mecklenburg School District students with the essential literacy skills to catapult their academic success. The EDGE curriculum was developed in part from the University of North Carolina at Charlottes Read Write Serve program. The Family Enrichment Movement has since made a key change to the EDGE program by adding a mentoring component to the literacy based curriculum. EDGE is not a traditional tutoring program but rather a skill building program. The Family Enrichment Movements philosophy is one that embodies the concept that if children are given a strong literacy foundation they can apply these skills across all academic disciplines. We meet for academic tutoring on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm-7:00pm. We come together for mentoring activities on Thursday evenings from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of Sugar Creek Rd. and N. Tryon St. 101 E. Sugar Creek Rd. 28213. Please visit our website at www.thefamilyenrichmentmovement.org. We look forward to working with you and your students this academic year. Please do not hesitate to contact us at 980-333-3633 should you have any questions. Regards,

Sherilla Horton
