It gives me immense pleasure to note that SIET is conducting the Second

Alumni Meet-2009. I am hopeful that this alumni meet will bring
interaction between seniors & juniors.

Also seniors share their expertise; knowledge and skill etc, that always help their juniors more
sensible in best use of it for their future. The constructive suggestions, the achievements and
successful venture of alumni are helpful for upliftment of the Alma mater. On this occasion
I wish the Alumni meet a great success and memorable for ever lasting.

Dear Alumni,

It gives me immense pleasure to share with you my feelings through this

Alumni Newsletter. I am very much impressed by the growth and
achievements of our Alumni working in reputed corporate sector and
carrying out their own ventures. Your alma mater successfully
progressing to excel in technical education.

All valiant efforts are being made for establishing the institution of its own reputation by
providing all infrastructural facilities , perfect study environment (ambience), enhancing skills
of the students to carry out technical and professional responsibilities. I am proud to mention
here that your alma mater has organized ISTE State level annual convention and National
seminar on "Quality and Excellence in Technical Education" which was a successful and well
received by delegates of different parts of the state, further we are happy to state that now the
institute is ISO 9001:2000 certified.

We invite all the alumni to participate in this event and also to share their experience at your
alma mater and with your junior friends. In this regard we look forward to your support,
constructive suggestion and regular interaction with the institution to keep it a top and ahead in
all endeavors. We wish all alumni to excel in the chosen carrier in all parts of Globe.

Coordinator's Message.....
Dear Alumni,
I overwhelmed to inform you all for second Alumni meet
organized on 26th January 2009. I take this opportunity to
mention few words about the events carried out in our Alumni
Association.
I have taken the charge as chief coordinator of Alumni
Association along with trusted coordinators of various
departments under the guidance of our beloved dynamic
Principal. The entire team of coordinators well cooperated
with me to gather information related to the Alumni such as
contact address, email id's etc. from all possible sources.
My sincere appreciations and thanks to the Alumni who spared
their valuable time in contributing articles, sweet memories,
experiences during their stay at alma mater to the Alumni
newsletter, also participating in the meet to make it a grand
success.
I am happy to put in front of you that our Alumni Association will
become registered association soon, as it is under progress. All
Alumni are requested to take part in all the activities of the
association, whole heartedly, actively in future. In this meet I
am requesting you to come forward to register your name for
different positions in the association for registration.
However apart from these we have certain objectives of this
Alumni meet.
' To provide a flashback screen for the heart to go back

Alumnae Memories.....
Moments at college memories forever
Gulping down breakfast after a quick shower, you put on your
denims, a cool shirt, freshened with some deodorant and leave
for college, speeding along the road. At the parking you give
yourself a final look and set your hair in the rear-view mirror.
Then you enter your class after meeting some friends, 15
minutes after the lecture has begun. You select the last bench
behind a huge and tall guy and patiently wait only to sign the
attendance sheet. Almost all students keep gazing at the
professor but with their minds somewhere down in the canteen
or at the door, waiting for 'that someone' to come or thinking
of that special appointment you have on that day.
There are a handful of sincere first-bench-students, who
attend each and every lecture and have all the detailed notes,
which the outstanding students, (students who are always
standing out) can photocopy a few days before the
examinations.
Joking and gossiping from behind your Economics book or
playing cross and knots in the most boring lecture during which
half the class is already snoring, were some of the methods
adopted to kill time. By the end of the lecture, everyone is
restless and keeps glancing at their watches, slamming books
and dropping bags. The professor mercilessly continues
teaching. Submissions is the only time you get to see all your
classmates, who are those familiar faces that we often saw at
Vaishali, M. G. Road or at the cinema hall.
The bell rings and everyone is out of the class, meeting friends
at the katte or in the canteen. During winter it's fun, to sip a
nice hot cup of coffee, drooling over your amour beau or belle,
exchanging secret smiles and then telling your friends of your
latest crush.
The thrill of bunking lectures, the fun of partying or going for
movies and picnics, the joy when you receive the long desired
'yes' from the one you have always loved, or the embarrassment
of facing the person you were talking about, who all the while
was standing just beside you, are truly unforgettable times.
Who can forget the numerous pranks we played. The first time
we spoke or were introduced to the one we secretly admired
and loved. Shadowing a belle till her home. Selecting the best
place in the canteen and grabbing the opportunity to talk and
sit beside her. The naughty smiles, the comments of friends,
passing your critical opinion of those you envied and hated. The
taste of tears when you lost your friends, the heartache when
you were ditched and dumped.
These are moments that can make emotions flow at any time in
life. Time when you have to make an urgent phone call and
arrive at the telephone booth only to find a big queue with
some female on the phone having a I don't care about you' kind
of attitude, laughing and chatting while the rest of us frown.
Hey! don't forget Friendship day, Valentines day and other days
for expressing our feelings.
The Rose day, the Sari day and gathering, are the most awaited
days in the college when every boy and girl "dress-to-kill'' and
have a gala time. And now, talking of our teachers who scream
their lungs out to fill something in our empty upper chambers
and help us fill that white sheet of paper with those black lines
which we get somewhere around March-April. And what do we
say about them:
"Arey, kya padha rahi hain?"
"Bahoot bore karti hain!"
"Sir ko to seekhana hee nahin aata hai!"
or just keep commenting on the way they look, dress or talk. I
will never forget my college years, they have been the best
years in my life till now. I have seen, learnt and experienced so
much. I have found friends, some didn't care and drifted apart.
I will always remember my favorite place in college, my
professors, the canteen coffee, all my friends, those innocent
and decent faces of people who turned out to be devils in
disguise. All the twists in the kaleidoscope of life are
experiences that have helped me mature. I will cherish them
forever.
So enjoy your college life because these moments will never
come again. At the same time don't forget that it is not your
own but your parents' money which you spend. We owe a lot to
them but we don't realize it. Don't be the cause of
embarrassment, shame and disgrace to them. At least make an
effort to stand-up somewhere close to their expectations.
Remember just a few moments can ruin your entire future.
One has to keep a fine balance. Enjoy yourself while in college,
but remember there is a reason to be in college. The next 30 to
40 years of your life will shape up on the basis of how your
spend your time in college.

Memories of SIET
Hi all,
It was a day of joy and wonderful feelings when my admission
to the department of Biotechnology as a student in SIET,
Tumkur in 2002. Besides the department facilities, the wide
spread campus, a good library, the great teaching and non-
teaching staff, friends, exceeded my expectations of a good
college. "It is amazing how time flies when you are having fun
with a host of characters as your cohorts"- at least that is how I
remember my four years in SIET with my teachers and friends.
Our department with dedicated, demanding and caring faculty
provided a solid foundation in biotechnology and in my life.
The department deserves the credit for providing the best
education in the field of Biotechnology.
In the 2002-2006 Biotechnology batch, 32 students were
admitted; out of which 8 students are pursuing the Higher
Education in abroad.

Also 6 students are pursuing post graduation in India-record in
the history of SIET.
Over all, the best four years of life I spent in learning, laughing
and having fun in SIET. "When special people touch our life,
they teach how to live and succeed in life". I take this
opportunity to THANK all in SIET who changed path of my life.

Memories of SIET
I had many wonderful experience in SIET. When I entered the
college, the college was new and we were the first batch of
SIET. I had marvelous experience during our earlier semester
with great lecturers like Mr. Lingaraju and Mr. Chandrashekar.
As I came up to our branch the actual struggle started
especially during our higher semester. I still remember that we
were fighting for labs with other department faculties. But now
the thing is different, there are well equipped labs with good
faculty.
During my 7th semester we had been to MCF Hassan to know
about the satellite communication. That was an industrial visit
for us. In fact that was the last trip in my college days. After
completion of my graduation I took PG-CET exams and
completed my M.Tech. from MSRIT in 2008.
After completion I am dedicated to SIET who gave honors to
serve me as faculty in Electronics and Communication
department.
I thank my beloved principal Dr. M. A. Venkatesh for his moral
support rendered to us.

Bharath Says...
It was a pleasure to join a new college from a well reputed
organization. Shridevi Educational Institutes are doing a great
job by providing a platform for educating many intellects in
different areas. I feel lucky being graduated from such a great
institution that too from the very first batch. Words are not
enough to thank all the concerned. I had a good time through
out my college days in Shridevi Institute of Engineering &
Technology.
I thank Dr. M. A. Venkatesh, our beloved principal for organizing
industrial grade training by successful professionals in
industries.
We were lead by skillful personalities who not only helped us in
academics but also in learning life & to win. I can never forget
Mr. Mallesh, who helped us in all the possible ways in
understanding things. Also, I had a good support from the
library we had in our college. Well equipped laboratories
rendered an opportunity to learn the real time technologies.
By having a good education from Shridevi Institute of
Engineering & technology today I have became a successful
person and I am heading a department in a well established
firm M/s GD India Pvt. Ltd., (ISO 9001:2008 certified) a branch
of GD Group of Industries.
Our company deals in machine building (special Purpose
Machines) rendering service to all the automobile industries in
India. We are proud to announce that many of the parts from
whichever vehicle available in India are fabricated by
machines engineered and developed in our esteemed
organization. We are the leading producers of "Leak Test
Machines" a crucial type of machine which follows German
standards & Japanese technologies blended with our
Engineering Ideas.
Other than this, we are producing lines of machines which can
assemble the parts to make a vehicle. Shortly you can see small
cars from Tata Motors, Nissan & Volks Wagon which are going to
be fabricated completely by our machines. We provide the
solutions from ideas to commissioning.
I am proud to be responsible to automate all those machines by
designing controls circuits and programming all the machines.
It was only possible by the grade of education that I got from
our Institution.Finally I should thank each and every delegate
from SIET staff who has helped me in making myself a
successful person.

Well…
My native is Tumkur itself, even though in Tumkur there are so
many Engineering college due to some reasons I selected
SHRIDEVI INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY only.
In this institution everything is good. Since I am a localite, I
didn't face much problem to adjust to the environment, I had so
many friends in college we had lots of fun. The faculty
members are very friendly and they encouraged us a lot both in
academic as well as in sports and cultural activities.
In 5th semester principal sir organized a soft skill programme
which was very informative and useful.This programme helped
me to build myself the self-confidence and taught us how to
face the interviews, what and how the dressing code should be,
physical appearance, body language, group discussions criteria
etc., this programme also helped us to get a brief idea of how
the recruitment process would be in the IT companies.
In the 6th semester so many companies came for campus
recruitment fortunately I was clearing only my written exams,
but the soft-skill program moulded me well to attend
interviews, finally after my graduation I faced many interviews
and I got placed in KEANE SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS.
Now I am very happy and I would like to thank the each and
every person of SIET who is responsible for me to be in this
position.

My memories in SIET
Hi all,
I will introduce myself as Kantharaju .P from Computer Science
& Engineering branch 2006 passed out batch, in short "An
alumni from SIET". Before I start to share my experiences in and
out of my college days, I am very glad to wish all a very happy
REPUBLIC DAY.
"Past is Past, Never be Lost" Don't think your past days went
away in your life, Just keep on achieving more and more in the
coming days. Set your mind, plan yourself & walk towards your
goal and achieve it. Definitely you get success one or the other
day. Don't lose your faith at any instance and at any time.
During my college days I have enjoyed a lot involving myself
and preparing my schedule well in advance as I should get
benefit from each and every day.
I had faced some critical challenges too when I was
approaching higher semester's. It's common in all students' life
as they will face some difficult challenges when they were
aiming for higher or bigger goal. I aimed for high and finally i
got it in both studies and my hobbies as a result for my effort
and with proper guidance from all the teaching and non-
teaching faculties.
In the mean time I would like to remember each and everyone
in both teaching and non-teaching staff those who left SIET
now.
There was a drastic change happened in our college over past 2
years (after 2006), lot of placement activities are happening,
more and more cultural programs, paper presentations,
workshops, NSS programmes.
Very good initiative has been taken by the management to keep
updated about all these ongoing and upcoming events should
be noticed on the website (www.shridevieducation.org) so that
not only present students, an alumni can also get to know about
the events conducting in the campus.
I will take this opportunity to congratulate all for getting the
success in recently happened tournaments (VTU
intercollegiate tournaments) and a special thanks to P.Ed for
conducting few of the tournaments in our college campus.
"Come-on SIET, keep Rocking".
Hope! no need to add any more words as all are knowing about
the present status of IT, but still if we have a grip over the work
then definitely we can survive in one or the other fields. So
please don't stick yourself only to studies or cultural things or
sports. Be a multi-talented guy/girl in your life, so that you can
lead your life in a proper manner, this applies in all fashions.
Finally I would like to convey a small message for the buddies of
SIET, "College life is a Golden Life, IT life is a Machine life", in
my view. So don't waste your precious college days, Enjoy as
much you can but don't forget to achieve your goal at the same
time. Once again wishing all the best to buddies and my dear
friends (alumni's) for their future. And Last but not least,
"Proud to say, I am an alumni from SIET".

KING AND I
I had a great opportunity in
assisting National geographic
Romulus Whitaker's country's
first ever radio telemetry
project on "King cobra",
launched in the Rainforests of
Agumbe, which is set to throw
light on little known aspects of
the King Cobra. Mr. Romulus
Whitaker is a renowned
herpetologist and a wildlife
conservationist.
His wildlife documentary in Agumbe on King Cobra made for
National Geographic won him the Emmy award. I was there in
Agumbe from 12th October to 27th October for a period of 15
days with P. Gowri shanker Education officer and King cobra
project co-ordinator. Agumbe Situated on the fringes of the
vast expanse of the Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary along the
Western Ghats in the serene and picturesque region. The lush
green Rainforests presents more than what meets the eye.
Agumbe is home to the magnificent King Cobra and the Agumbe
Rainforest Research Station (ARRS) that works towards
conservation of this elusive king of all snakes in India. The King
Cobra (Ophiophagus Hannah) is the world's longest venomous
snake, with a length that can be as large as 5.6 m (18.5 ft).King
cobra has enough venom in its bite to kill an elephant. Little is
known about several aspects of this species such as nesting
(this is the only species of snakes that is known to build a nest),
courtship, combat and even cannibalism. This effort is to
record the observations made through tracking that will
facilitate a better understanding of the snake. The behavior
pattern will also be useful in fueling the process of
conservation of this species.
I was tracking a single 11-ft male King Cobra, with the team
that works in collaboration with the Karnataka Forest
Department. I was assisting in recording and maintaining daily
reports and leg the long distances taken by the snake. "The task
is a strenuous one and extremely demanding, especially since
our objective is to monitor the snake from a distance, giving
him his space. Tracking is mostly by the radio signal and not by
visual sighting. Soon after my radio telemetry project on "King
cobra" in October, on the month of November I had a great
opportunity to rescue a king cobra in Madekeri along with
sathish of "coorg public school". I feel sighting a King in The wild
is like a dream come true, But Handling one, the joy and thrill
of the moment i really can't explain until you touch one. King is
world's longest venomous snake. And It took me 23 years to spot
and rescue one and release it back to where it belongs. This
rare moment i will cherish my lifetime.

SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING...
At the sea shore of Chandipur, I saw a young boy of may be 12,
helping his mother to hold the net. When she was tired, he
would help her and when she did not need him, he would
collect the crabs. His actions showed that he was enthusiastic
and happy.
When he came to the shore, he approached me and I was a
prospective buyer, offered me fresh crabs. I said that I didn't
eat crabs but I wanted to talk to him.
He came and sat with me on the steps, specially made for the
visitors. I looked at him carefully. He was thin and dark. But his
eyes were like diamonds, sparkling at night. His enthusiasm
was infectious.
He was wearing only shorts and his body was completely wet.
But, he did not seem uncomfortable or self-conscious. He was
as natural as fresh as natural flower. His smile was contagious.
I asked about his family. I came to know that his father was
Cycle Rickshaw driver, earning about Rs. 50/- a day. His mother
supplemented the family income by catching the fish and
crabs. The boy, whose name was Javed, was studying in school
and always stood first. He also had a little sister at home.
I was curious to know how much Javed earned everyday and his
schedule. He said, "In the early morning when the sea goes
back, I hunt for crabs, help my mother and then go home, take
a bath and do a little kitchen work to reduce my mother's
burden. Then I go to school. Evenings, I do my homework and in
the night, when the sea goes back, I go crab hunting. 'Allah' is
very kind to our land. I heard that this is the only place in our
country where the sea disappears and we get crabs twice a day,
without much difficulty."
He probably earned Rs. 5 or 10/- a day. I was unhappy that he
earned so little for such hard work.
I asked him, "Only Rs. 5 or 10/- a day, Javed. What will you get
with that? And to that, you wake up at 5 a.m. and sleep only
after 11 p.m.?"
The boy's enthusiasm did not diminish with this question.
Smilingly he said, "Sir, Rs. 5/- not a big sum compared to
nothing? PANCH RUPAY ME KUCH BHI TO HOTA HAI!!! We can buy
salt, we can buy chillies. If we sit idle, we cannot buy even
that. Nobody gives money in 100's or 1000's. Every drop makes
an ocean and every grain makes a granary."
It's Really true - 'Better to light a candle than curse the
darkness.'
Dear friends, My advice is - don't sit idle… Do any kind of good
work that satisfies your soul.. who knows? your today's little
foot step may takes you to better tomorrow.

Riddles 7: I am the black child of a white father, a wingless
