Phonics 2 letter combination sounds with short vowel sounds combining them with one consonant to make phonetic families eg: at, am, in, ot etc. Students should start to build these family sounds into short words and to sight read them as couplets. Begin studying the at family. Students should learn similar sounding three letter words that all end in at. They need to learn to differentiate them from each other using their beginning sound, and to associate the words with the object. They should then complete written exercises in the workbook such as written word practice and associating descriptive sentences with pictures by picking the at words out of the sentence and relating them to their pictoral form. Notes / parent follow up: Have your child point out the opposites that are involved in their daily life. Try and focus on flavors at meals, colors, weather, or textures. Concentrate on one pairing a day to help him/her strengthen their vocabulary.
