Geo-Spatial Analysis of Landslide Occurrence in Maloos Village in Barangay Sinuda, Kitaotao, Bukidnon

Adviser. Dr. Angela Grace Toledo-Bruno The study demonstrated soil analysis and geographic information system (GIS) to geospatially examine landslide occurences in Maloos Village, municipality of Kitaotao. The duration of the study was October 2011 to March 2012. The geo-spatial analyses included the landslide extent, land cover, slope map and soil type. Each of the analysis has corresponding parameters measured. The general findings show that the four landslide occurrences have a total area of 0.5 hectares. Site 1 with an area of 0.19 hectares, is highly vulnerable based on slope percentage, highly vulnerable in terms of agricultural crop vegetation and very highly vulnerable due to proximity to road. Site 2 is 0.05 hectares, has low vulnerability in terms of slope percentage, moderately vulnerable due to grassland and shrubs vegetation but highly vulnerable due to road distance. Site 3 is also classified as having low vulnerability in terms of slope percentage, moderately vulnerable because of dominance of grass and shrub but very highly vulnerable due to road distance. Site 4 has an area of 0.17 hectares. Based on slope percentage, it is classified as highly vulnerable, land cover of agricultural crops makes it highly vulnerable and very highly vulnerable in terms of road distance. Soil in Maloos Village is classified as sandy clay loam and soil pH is too acidic. Potassium and phosphorous are still sufficient but the nitrogen is insufficient. Organic matter is very low. Combining the slope vegetation cover, road distance, and soil characteristics, Maloos

Village is prone and vulnerable to landslide occurences. It is highly recommended that soil conservation practices such us contour farming and agroforestry be employed. Construction of in frastructures like communication towers and roads need strict monitoring in compliance with the Environmental Management Plan.
