ABSTRACT

SUSON, JOYCELYN N. Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Central Mindanao University, Town, Musuan, Bukidnon. March 2012. Growth Performance of Narra (Pterocarpus indicus WILD) Seedlings as Affected by Different Ratio of Vermicast

Adviser: Dr. RICO A. MARIN

A study was conducted to determine the effect of different levels of vermicast to Narra seedlings. A Randomized Complete Block Design (RCRD) with three replications was used in the conduct of this study. The observational period of the study lasted for three months. Soil sample and vermicast were taken from the FRDD nursery and vermin center. The soil sample was acidic at pH of 5.31 while vermicast was basic at pH of 7.13. Findings revealed that out of the four treatments, treatment 4 (1:3) gave the highest average in terms of height growth, stem diameter growth, number of leaves, and survivability. Treatment 4 (1:3) gave the highest value in terms of plant height at 10.52 cm and the lowest was found in treatment 3 (1:2) at 8.16 cm. Among the four levels of vermicast application, treatment 4 (1:3) gave the highest value in the stem diameter growth of the seedlings at 0.2300 cm while the lowest obtained from treatment 1 (control) at 0.1933 cm. In the number of leaves, treatment 4 (1:3) has the highest value at the average of 6.90. On the other hand, the lowest was found in treatment 2 (1:1) at 5.67. The percent survival was found highest at treatment 4 (1:3) at 100 % and the lowest was found in treatment 3 (1:2) at 76.6 %. Analysis of i

variance shows that treatment 4 significantly influenced the height growth of the Narra seedlings but not in the stem diameter, number of leaves and in the survivability of the seedlings.
