GATHERING THE PEOPLE OF GOD

Please take a moment to silence your cell phones now. GATHERING SONG Welcome W&S #3152

Have mercy and cleanse us. Lord, when we do not truly trust and obey you, we are overwhelmed by self-pity, fear, and worry. Have mercy and deliver us. In Christ we are given a sure hope and secure love, yet we follow the false hopes and desires of this world. Have mercy and forgive us. Father, through the redeeming death of your Son on the cross, by your Spirit and through your word, transform and renew us to follow you with joy. All this we ask, confident in your unchanging faithfulness. Amen.

OFFERING OUR GIFTS AND PRAYERS If you are worshiping with us today for the first time, your gift is your presence with us. A SONG OF PRAISE TO GOD UMH #94

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below: Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts! Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS *HYMN OF RESPONSE Whatever You Do (stanzas 1, 3, 5) UMH #38 W&S #3128

Ushers will collect yellow cards; please pass yours down to the end of the row. PRAYER OF CONFESSION Lord, we have come to see that our lives fall far short of your glory. Have mercy and forgive us. Lord, you have given your life for us, and poured out your Spirit, yet we fail to return your love with all our heart. Have mercy and change us. Too often we are selfish and proud, ignoring you, Lord, and neglecting others.

WE PRAY FOR OTHERS The pastor will share prayer requests and the congregation will respond: Lord, hear our prayer. After the prayers have been lifted, we will pray together the Lords Prayer: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Announcements SAPRCThe South Austin Pregnancy Resource Center, located at 4611 Manchaca Rd., offers women facing an unplanned pregnancy a loving, grace filled environment to consider their options. It is staffed by trained, volunteer client advocates who offer direction and support. The center strives to encourage, to affirm dignity and self-worth, and to suggest positive alternatives for individual situations and needs as they openly share the good news of Jesus Christ. There is an information table in the foyer today. You can also contact Sandy Cox, who volunteers at the Center, 892-2124. Secret Prayer PalsOnce again, Spiritual Care ministry invites the Berkeley congregation to participate in Secret Prayer Pals during the week that includes Valentines Day, February 14th. Look for the Valentines box and basket in the narthex on Sunday, January 27th. There will be hearts upon which you write your prayer request, then place them in the box. On February 10th, the hearts will be drawn at random following each service and the Secret Prayer Pal will be in intentional prayer for that prayer request during Valentines week as an expression of our love and care for each other. Austin District Free StoreOn March 2, the Free Store opens its doors at its permanent location, 1717 E. 12th St. in east Austin, adjacent to Simpson UMC. This ministry provides clothing and household goods and encourages community. To volunteer, call Matt Cardona in the Austin District Office, 444-1983. For information, visit www.freestoreaustin.org.
