Basic History
The Great Pyramid of Giza was built for King Khufu, the second pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty. It was built around 2,500 B.C.E. the pyramid is about 481 feet tall. The pyramids were built by everyday people. The blocks for the pyramid came from up to 500 miles away. Each block weighed about 2.5 tons each and it took over two million of the blocks to build the pyramids. Egyptologists are still unsure about how exactly the blocks were moved. However many agree that the blocks were hauled up ramps made out of mud, stone, and wood with ropes made out of papyrus twine.
