Monday Lesson Plan: Standards: a. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.7.

3b Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, and description, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters. b. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.7.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences. c. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.7.5 With some guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed. (Editing for conventions should demonstrate command of Language standards 13 up to and including grade 7 here.) Procedure: 15 min Review of dialogue. We will take an example sentence from one of the stories and write it on the board. We will then model how to correctly add punctuation and underline the denotation of the speaker. We will then have students work in groups with sample quotes to correctly punctuate them and mark the way in which the author states the speaker. 5 min We will introduce and explain the final writing assignment, answering any questions the students have. 30 min- Students will work on the prewriting/brainstorming stage of their writing assignment in the computer lab. If students finish this step, they can begin to work on their first drafts. Assessment: a. This standard will be assessed through students ability to correctly use and punctuate dialogue in both the mini lesson and their final writing assignments. The other aspects of this standard will be assessed through their final writing assignments as they introduce characters, describe the setting, and structure the events of their narrative. b. This standard will be assessed through their writing of a narrative as their final writing assignment. All of the aspects of this standard will be crucial to producing a successful narrative. c. This standard will be assessed through their final writing assignment as well. We will engage in the steps of the writing process, making sure to help our students along the way. This particular lesson will cover the planning and initial stages of writing the draft that will later undergo revision and editing.
