MODULE DESCRIPTION: This unit identifies the competence required to equip students with a technical understanding of the definition of welding; history of welding, classification of welding processes, source of energy for welding, master chart of welding and allied processes and the importance of welding and its applications. This unit identifies the competence required for identifying SMAW equipment by choosing the parts and accessories so that each part and accessory is correctly identified for the required welding process. This unit identifies the competence required for setting up SMAW equipment and accessories by selecting, assembling and checking assembled set so that the components/parts is securely connected, safe and ready for operation.
This unit identifies the competence required for carrying out buttering/padding using SMAW process on 50mm to 60mm diameter carbon steel bar so that the bar radius is increased to 4mm 1mm single layer padding of 100mm long

MODULE DESCRIPTION This course is designed to provide the student with a thorough technical understanding of the purpose for welding health and safety practices that are essential for safe work condition in arc welding practices. The unit identifies the competence required to carry out workshop safety practices using workshop layout plan, cleaning material, safety signage, fire extinguisher and first aid kit so that workshop layout complies to standard; workshop house-keeping and safety rule carried out; and basic first aid treatment performed according to the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act.

MODULE DESCRIPTION: This unit identifies the competence required to provide students with a comprehensive technical understanding of the purpose identifying types of materials by interpreting material specification, charts, tables and manuals and mill certificate to determine material type and grade. This unit identifies the competence required for selecting parent metal for welding by referring to mill certificate and client specification so that material selected meet client and work specification. This unit identifies the competence required for selected welding consumables by referring to welding specification so that the consumables selected is compatible with the base metal and meet client specification. This unit identifies the competence required for handling welding consumables by storing and preserving so that the consumables is kept and maintained without losing its chemical and physical properties and according to manufacturer recommendation. This unit identifies the competence required for monitoring the use of welding electrodes by identifying, distributing, storing and replenishing electrodes so that the required electrodes are available at all times.
