Only one out of 91 child safety seats checked during an Albany County safety seat check event had been installed correctly. Most parents and caregivers who had their seats checked found that they were being used improperly. The event, one of the largest in the northeast, replaced 15 unsafe or recalled seats and provided one seat on loan for a special needs child. Albany County will continue offering these free safety seat check events to ensure all children are safe.

Albany County Safety Seat Check Program Successful
Once again, Albany County has held an eye-opening child safety seat check with 91 seats checked and only one had been installed correctly. This is another example of parents and caregivers doing the right thing by having their seats checked only to find out they were being used improperly, said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. Albany County will continue to offer such free events to make sure that each and every child is safe. Todays Safety Seat Check is one of the largest in the northeast and featured Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from around the Capital Region. Additionally, 15 seats were replaced after being deemed unsafe or recalled and one seat was given on loan to accommodate a special needs child. The seat check program was held in the Garden Center Parking lot at Sears of Colonie Center and was sponsored by Albany County, Albany County DPW Traffic Safety Education Program, Capital Region SAFE Kids Coalition NYS Governors Traffic Safety Committee and Sears of Colonie Center ### Mary Rozak Director of Communications Office of the Albany County Executive 112 State Street, Room 825 Albany, NY 12207 tel 518.447.7040 ext. 7218 fax 518.447.5589 mary.rozak@albanycounty.com www.albanycounty.com
