    NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE CONDUCT OF UNANG HAKBANG SA KINABUKASAN PROJECT (YEAR 2) AT SALAWAG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SY 2013-2014

    A study by the Department of Education cited the lack of school supplies as one of the major reasons behind the high dropout rate among poor Filipino children in public elementary schools. In highly impoverished communities where the basic need for food is not even met, providing school supplies for their children is an added burden for poor parents. As a response, the GMA Kapuso Foundation initiated the UNANG HAKBANG SA KINABUKASAN (UHSK) Project. This is the yearly school opening project for incoming Grade 1 students from poor and remote public elementary schools nationwide where they receive backpacks with complete set of school materials. 1 Once again, Salawag Elementary School was chosen by GMA Kapuso Foundation to be one of its beneficiaries for this project this school year. This is the second year of giving school supplies to the most indigent pupils of our school. Most of them from the remote Sitio of Malabon a community near the dumpsite of garbage which is occupied by poor families. About 300 Grade I pupils received their early Christmas gift from the said foundation. Attached are pictures of the distribution of school supplies.

    Salawag Elementary School welcomes its benefactor- GMA Kapuso Foundation on its Second Year of giving school supplies to the indigent Grade 1 pupils.

    Dr. Victoria Pamienta, City Schools Division Superintendent, reminds pupils to use their school supplies in studying well to achieve their dreams. Also, she emphasized that they are so lucky to be chosen as recipients of the project.

    Ms. Duca, representative from GMA Kapuso Foundation Inc., shows to the pupils the content inside the bag that they will receive.

    The distribution of school supplies is the most awaited part of the pupils.

    Pupils are excited to get hold of the bag from GMA Kapuso.

    SES Pupils sings a Thank You Song with a promise of studying well and be at school always with the bag that they receive.

    Aside from the school supplies, GMA Kapuso Foundation also donated shampoo and conditioner which was given to SES Pupils from Kinder up to Grade 6 levels to promote good hygiene.
