Tempered steels have many applications from links for automotive timing chains to complex geometries combined with extreme durability, like steel toe caps for industrial safety shoes. Before the mechanical properties can be instilled when a part is tempered, it must undergo a number of processes - punching, fine-blanking, bending and cold forming. BILSTEIN optimises its cold-rolled tempered steel strips for their end use by selecting the base material and tailoring the cold-forming process precisely to meet the demands of the parts ultimate application. This process ensures that the structures and mechanical properties guarantee the best possible cuttability and formability, and, at the same time, provides the optimal tempering result for the mechanical properties and for costs.
