Situation Analysis

Nitish background Nitish holds B.Tech and M.Tech degree from IIT Madras . After M.Tech he worked in Infosys for 2 years as Senior Developer in banking projects but he wanted to move out of programming so decided to do MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur for better career. After MBA he joined a consultancy company in Jamshedpur for 2 lacs p.a. , his work was to prepare business bids and business plans for different Companies. Job at Solution Unlimited After working for two years he decided to change his job to leverage his experience in IT and Finance and change his location. Finally he got to know about the vacancy in Solutions Unlimited With the help of a IIT Madras batch mate Arvind and applied for the same. Nitish's selection into Solutions Unlimited Nitish was interviewed by Mr Kapoor (DM) on telephone. Telephone interviewed was followed by an interview taken by Mr Venkat (AOO) in Hyderabad for an interview during which Nitish was provided with an offer letter of 2.55 lacs p.a. , Nitish disappointment expressed

on the salary and told Venkat that he would consider moving from

Jamshedpur only if Solutions Unlimited offered him Rs. 4 lakhs p.a.

Meena (operations officer) came in and gave him a new offer of 3.1 Lakh p.a which was again rejected by Nitish. These rejections led a bad impression on Meena and she told Nitish to check back the next morning. When this matter came knowledge of Mr Kapoor, he intervene and a gave mouthful to Meena about her incompetency to handle situation and asked her to revise the offer for 4.3 lakhs p.a. Offer Acceptance Nitish accepted the offer and agreed to join within 14 days on account that severance amount due and relocation allowance for him and his wife will be paid by the company , both conditions were accepted by Venkat but no written document was issued. Joining and first Experiences Since his joining, Nitish got an opportunity to work with Manish Chawla and other top
management and received their appreciation. But suffered a lot because of poor personal

relations with operations team. Nitish was provided relocation allowance only for himself and only 50% of the severance amount as against the 100% severance amount and reallocation amount for both he and his wife as committed Mr Venkat . Nitish refused this amount and contacted Mr Alagu ,who refused it saying it against the companys policy and passed offensive comments. All of the above circumstances resulted in a bitterness between Nitish and Meena, Mr Alagu of operations department and ultimately Nitish could not complete his project and got transferred to Nagpur.

Problem Statement

How should Nitish manage his personal relation to achieve a flourishing professional career.

Options 1. Continue the job in Nagpur and ignore Meena . 2. Continue the job and take the initiative to talk to Meena. 3. Leave the Job 4. Discuss the situation with Mr Manish Chawla

Criteria for Evaluations 1. Impact on Nitish career. 2. Impact on relation between Meena and Nitish 3. Nitish relationship with different employees of Solution unlimited.

Evaluation of Options 1. Continue the job in Nagpur and ignore Meena behavior towards him. Impact on relation between Meena and Nitish: It will not impact the relation between Meena and Nitish. Since Nitish is shifted from Head Office, now Meena and Nitish will occasionally meet each other.

Impact on Nitish Career: impact on Nitish career would not be positive, as Nitish was stopped from completing his projects to which he has given his time and effort. Transfer to Nagpur might take away the opportunity from Nitish to work in direct contact with top management people like Mr Chawla.

Nitish relationship with different employees of Solution Unlimited:

Nitish

maintain good relation with all the employee except Mr Alagu, Meena and Venkat and there would not be any major impact on his relations. 2. Continue the job and take the initiative to talk to Meena. Impact on relation between Meena and Nitish: Nitish and Meena might get a chance to understand each others prospective, solve differences and improve their relation. Impact on Nitishs career: Meena will be responsible for Nitish Allocation. So by improving relation with Meena, he may get an opportunity to work on desired projects. Nitish relationshipwith different employees of Solution Unlimited:By taking the initiative of talking to Meena, he might improve relation with Venkat and Mr Alagu.

3. Leave the Job. Impact on relation between Meena and Nitish: If Nitish leaves the Job, the relation between Meena and Nitish does not matter.

Impact on Nitishs careeer: leaving a job in such a short time might give negative impression. Nitish may need to find a new Job where he might require reference of previous employer( generally HR department) so Meena can hamper his career.

Nitish relationshipwith different employees of Solution Unlimited: Nitish relationship with other employees neither change nor it will matter.

4. Take the matter to Mr Manish: Impact on relation between Meena and Nitish: when Nitish shared his offer terms with Mr Kapoor that resulted in a bitterness between Nitish and Meena . If he repeats this act it will further damage his relation with Meena. As Meena does not like intervention of senior associates which raises doubt on her capability. Impact on Nitishs Career : Nitish already working aside Mr Manish. But after his current projects ends, Meena will be responsible for Nitish Allocation. So if their relation does not improve, Nitish might find difficulty in project allocations. Nitish relationshipwith different employees of Solution Unlimited: This act will further spoil his relation with Venkat and Mr Alagu. And also other employees might also get impression that Nitish flaunt his good terms with Mr Manish Chawla.

Recommendations:

Based on the analysis of various options. I recommend that Nitish should continue his Job and take the initiative to talk to Meena in order to resolve their differences.

Action Plan

1. Nitish should introspect his behavior at various instances and ponder over its improvement. 2. Nitish should approach Meena and arrange a informal meeting with her to make her realize his conscious effort to solve their issues. 3. In that meeting he should address his problems and reconcile all issues with Meena and also try to understand perspective of Mr Alagu and Venkat. 4. Nitish should avoid mistakes that he committed during interview in future and should learn to negotiate tactfully.
