To what extent does depression affect our perception of the things around us?

Depression can be defined as severe despondency and dejection, accompanied by feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy. Moreover, it is a condition of mental disturbance, typically with lack of energy and difficulty in maintaining concentration or interest in life. As a result, the way the depressed person perceives the things around himself is very gloomy and will not be able to enjoy the beautiful scenarios of nature. That person might think everything and everyone is against him and will see things from a very negative perspective. For example, suppose a situation where a teacher scolds a depressed person and a normal person when both their exam results are not good. The normal person will understand that the teacher is trying to make him try harder next time. However, the depressed person may comprehend this circumstance as the end of the world and this may lead them to do unbelievably bad things. Khaing Thu Thu Grade - 11
