2 EXPERIMENT ON STANDARD TIME ESTIMATION OBJECTIVES To conduct time study for the given job disassembly, drilling a hole and to find the standard time for work. THEORY Standard time is the total time in which a job should be completed at standard performance i.e. work content, contingency allowances for delay, unoccupied time and interference allowances where applicable. Standard time = normal time / (1-allowances) The normal time represents a time that a qualified worker needs to perform the job if worked at normal tempo. Normal time = observed time x rating factor Observed time for an element as measured by the work study observed with the help of a stop watch. The rating factor or the leveling factor is the factor in which the observed time is multiplied in order to adjust for the difference in operators performance. APPARATUS Stop watch, Bulb holder, video clipping, envelope, letter, address label etc. PROCEDURE The time study is conducted by dividing the job into a number of activities. The above procedure is repeated for three times and observed time for each activity is observed. Then calculate average time for each activity. It is then multiplied with the performance rating factor to get normal time(take performance rating factor as 0.75 assuming that the worker is performing the job with less effective speed than the standard). The allowances ( take it as 15% of normal time considering both the contingency allowances and relaxation allowances) are added to get the standard time. The total of standard times of various activities gives the standard time for the process.
