Dear Eastminster Family, Happy Easter! Christ is risen! Death has been defeated, and sin has been destroyed. God has called us out of darkness to live a new life in His marvelous light. As we continue to celebrate these truths this week after Easter, we will also be celebrating the ways in which the risen Christ is still at work, calling new disciples to live in the light of the resurrection and to follow Him to the glory of God the Father. This Sunday, April 7, during our 11:15 a.m. sanctuary worship service, we will welcome our 2012-2013 confirmation class into the fellowship and membership of the church, as they stand before God and the congregation and confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This will mark the culmination of a yearlong confirmation process, in which the students have devoted themselves to learning about their faith and their role in the church. Since the confirmation process was completely revamped two years ago, moving the confirmation year from the eighth grade to the ninth grade and changing the format from a Sunday Schoolbased process to a retreat-based process, this will be the first class to be confirmed under the new process. In addition to participating in several intense retreat weekends, each student has participated in a mission project and regularly attended Sunday school and Sunday evening youth fellowship. In these ways, the confirmands have had opportunities to grow in their faith and understand what it means to be a committed member in the church of Jesus Christ. They have also been nurtured in their relationships with each other and adult leaders through small groups known as covenant families. All of this has taken place to lead our students to affirm the baptismal vows taken by their parents and the church, so that they may now stand on their own and proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord of their own lives. As they make this profession, they will push back against a world that tries to convince them that their identity is found in what they do, what they own, and what others say about them. Through this profession, they will claim their identity that has not been won or earned by any effort of their own but has been given to them by the grace of God. Although the confirmation year is coming to an end this Sunday for our confirmands, confirmation is not an ending. It is the beginning; the first step in an ongoing journey of faith lived in Christ. Sunday will mark a first step of putting ones faith and trust in Gods saving grace and committing ones life to live in obedience to the God, who was obedient to the point of death on a cross for our sins. We hope you will join us this Sunday as we worship the risen Christ and celebrate His work in the lives of these young people. Although we come to worship the Lord this Sunday, we too, along with the confirmands, come to reaffirm what we believe that Jesus is the Christ! We look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday! In Christ,

Update for April 7, 2013

You are invited to a complimentary lunch on Sunday, April 28, following the 11:15 a.m. worship service to hear about the proposed and exciting upgrades for the Eastminster Sanctuary area. There will be a conceptual presentation of some of the plans for creating a new mens restroom, making the womens restroom ADA compliant and the building itself a friendly and accessible space for people with mobility issues, a new heating and cooling system and more! If you are unable to attend on the 28th, Wednesday, May 1, will be a make up date, with a complimentary meal from 5:30 - 6:16 p.m. and the presentation following. Check your calendar and Save the date!!! One of our greatest privileges and responsibilities at Eastminster is the election of church officers. Your input is an essential and critical part of the process by which the Nominating Team puts forth its recommendations to the congregation. It is time to prayerfully consider people you feel can be entrusted with the leadership decisions of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Consider people who love the Lord, have encouraging spirits, mature faith, Bible knowledge, and hearts for service and gifts for ministry. Our rich heritage as Presbyterians has given us a representative form of government. The Book of Order states that church officers should be persons of strong faith, dedicated discipleship, and love of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel in the church and in the world. Please submit names by using an Officer Nomination Form. If you have not received one of these in the mail, email Carol (csutton@eastminsterpres.org) and she will send you one, or pick one up when you are at the church. Please return your forms to Carol Sutton by April 16. You may submit as many names as you would like. Put June 17th-June 20th from 9:00 a.m. - noon on your calendar. VBS is for rising 4K-rising 6th grade. (Rising 5th and rising 6th graders will have their own track for the week that will include some off-site activities) Registration starts soon! Want to help?
